Nothing humbles a team fast enough quite like having to play the 2025 NBA champions in their backyard. Undermanned and lacking the talent to go toe-to-toe with such a powerhouse, L.A.'s chances of being competitive don't look great at all.

My Clippers vs. Thunder prediction is indicative of the obvious talent discrepancy between the two sides. That will become all the more glaring when they take the hardwood in a building that's nearly impossible for visitors to emerge victorious in, even near full strength.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at the Paycom Center, with oddsmakers not giving L.A. much of a chance as 14.5-point underdogs.

Let's dive into my analysis and NBA picks for this Western Conference matchup on Sunday, Oct. 25.

TOP PICK
Clippers vs Thunder prediction: Thunder -14.5

Seeing such lopsided spreads can send a chill up your spine, as projections are clearly steering you in one obvious direction. During the 2025-26 campaign, including the postseason, the Oklahoma City Thunder were 29-2 straight-up whenever favored by at least 14 points, but only 17-14 covering the spread under those circumstances.

One of those victories and covers did come against the Los Angeles Clippers, though, with the Thunder winning by 21 points as 16.5-point favorites on Dec. 18 of last year. L.A. was led by the likes of Kawhi Leonard and Ivica Zubac that night, both of whom are no longer with the organization.

Those roles have now shifted to leading scorers Darius Garland and Brook Lopez, with the latter 38 years of age and coming off the bench, which goes to show how desperate Los Angeles currently is for options.

Since Dec. 31, 2016, the Clippers have put together a 1-15 record SU with just three covers in 16 total road outings in OKC. Three of those spreads painted the former as an underdog of 9+ points, and the average margin of defeat came out to 21.6 points.

I'm confidently taking this number up to 17.5 points and 75%. The Thunder have held two of their biggest challengers in the West — the Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs — to 95.9 points per 100 possessions through two games, and those teams ranked top 3 in offense a season ago. L.A. is entering a gunfight with a pocket knife, and that knife is lacking an edge.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Thunder's longest active home winning streak against any one team is against L.A. at nine games going back to May 16, 2021. Five of those wins were by at least 14 points, with just a single blown cover along the way.

Clippers vs Thunder combo

Death, taxes, and the Thunder beating the Clippers.

If the Spurs and Nuggets couldn't muster up more than 104 points against OKC, then it's difficult to foresee the Clippers somehow bucking that trend.

That goes in conjunction with predicting an Under at 222.5 points, with L.A. and the Thunder a combined 1-3 in this market through three games.

  • Under 222.5
  • Clippers team total Under 104.5

Clippers vs Thunder player props

Clippers player prop: Brook Lopez Over 10.5 points

At this stage of his career, with the mileage on his body and the role he's currently in, reaching double-digit scoring shouldn't be expected from someone like Lopez. Here we are, though.

Lopez has dropped at least 17 points through two appearances, shooting 71.4% from the field on 10.5 shot attempts in 23.5 minutes as a reserve.

Sunday will be another example of head coach Tyronn Lue needing the big man on the floor to counter the opposition's juggernaut status. With minutes comes opportunity, and this prop is far too juicy at such a reasonable number.

Thunder player prop: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Over 3.5 rebounds

Rebounding the basketball at a high level is not something that's necessarily expected of a starting point guard, especially one that has the elite-level size in the frontcourt surrounding him like a pair of 7-footers in Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein.

Los Angeles is one of five teams currently allowing fewer than 40 boards per contest, sitting tied for fourth overall at 39.5. The upside here for two-time Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is that he's achieved an Over at 3.5 boards two of the last three times he's faced the Clippers.

He's averaging four after two games, lifted by the six he pulled in during the season opener. SGA's rebounding chances are also at a solid 9.5, meaning he'll have enough chances to go his way to perhaps stumble towards four.
