The shorthanded Pistons will have their hands full against the 76ers, as Tyrese Maxey and LeBron James will both thrive in Philly tonight.

Two undefeated Eastern Conference teams clash tonight as Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers host Cade Cunningham's Detroit Pistons.

Only one team can escape with a perfect record, and my Pistons vs. 76ers prediction expects Philadelphia to emerge unscathed in a low-scoring battle at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

My NBA picks also consider Maxey, LeBron James, and Paul Reed as players worth targeting on Sunday, Oct. 25.

 TOP PICK
Pistons vs 76ers prediction: 76ers moneyline

Philadelphia 76ers star LeBron James is back for the second leg of a back-to-back after sitting out Saturday, while Joel Embiid will get the night off after playing in the first game.

The Detroit Pistons are already hampered by injuries. Jalen Duren is out, and Ausar Thompson is questionable after missing this morning's shootaround.

Detroit’s injuries are more notable than Philadelphia’s, particularly on the defensive end. The Pistons rank just 14th in defensive rating, and without Duren protecting the rim or DPOY candidate Thompson in the mix, Detroit’s defense may struggle, giving Philadelphia's offense plenty of breathing room.

Duren is a key interior scorer, while Thompson is an important rebounder and secondary playmaker. Their absences will hurt Detroit’s attack against Philadelphia’s fourth-ranked defense.

The Sixers are surprising home underdogs, and I’ll take them as straight-up winners up to 55%.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Detroit’s shorthanded defense will face a stiff test against a 76ers team that has excelled at ball security this season. Philadelphia sports the lowest turnover percentage in the NBA at just 12.4%.

Pistons vs 76ers combo

Philadelphia’s 100 defensive rating ranks fourth in the NBA, and the team has allowed the seventh-fewest points per game to opponents (107.3). The Sixers can slow Detroit’s shorthanded offense by securing the ball and limiting fast-break scoring opportunities. Play down to 225.5.

If I expected Thompson to play, I’d shy away from this leg, as he's usually tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best player. But without his relentless pressure, I’m happy trading the Over on Tyrese Maxey's scoring prop up to 26.5 points.

For the fourth straight season, Maxey is putting up 20 shots per game, and he’s averaging a career-best 28.7 points. He’s scored 25+ in all three games to open the season, and a favorable matchup at home gives him an edge to clear that line once again.

Pistons vs 76ers player props

Pistons player prop: Paul Reed Over 14.5 points

Duren’s absence means Paul Reed should earn a starting spot against his former team. Reed saw an extended run on Friday against the Heat, finishing with 19 points across 26 minutes after Duren’s early exit.

Reed’s success against Miami wasn’t a fluke, as he averaged 15.2 points across 11 starts a season ago. Reed produced 15+ points in five of those contests, including four of six on the road.

With Embiid and multiple backup bigs out of commission, Reed won’t have a scary matchup, and I’m happy to trade this line up to 50%.

76ers player prop: LeBron James Over 7.5 rebounds

James has piled up 19 total rebounds through his first two games with the Sixers, and he ranks behind only Embiid for the highest team rebound average.

It’s a very small sample size, but James’ 14.1% rebound rate represents a career high in Year 24.

With Embiid out of action and Detroit’s two leading rebounders also sidelined, James can make a mark on this game as a rebounder, and I’ll trade this line up to 8.5.
