Canadiens vs Oilers prediction

Canadiens vs Oilers Best bet: Under 6.5 (-130)

There’s a clear case for the Under in this matchup between the 6-2 Montreal Canadiens and 3-3-1 Edmonton Oilers.

Montreal has an unsustainably high 10.4 team shooting percentage at five-on-five, and the Habs are playing their second road game in consecutive nights after topping the Calgary Flames 2-1 in overtime Wednesday.

On the opposite bench, Edmonton interestingly checks in with the third-lowest team shooting percentage at even strength.

The Canadiens have also generated the seventh-fewest expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5, and the Oilers have the fourth-fewest to start the year.

Edmonton has gone Under in five of seven games (2-4-1), and Montreal should struggle to generate consistent offense in this tough scheduling spot tonight.

Canadiens vs Oilers same-game parlay

Habs starter Sam Montembeault posted a respectable .901 SV% with a fourth-ranked 29.62 goals saved above expected across 62 games last year, so I’m expecting quick improvement to his respective .857 and -4.29 marks through his first four starts.

Edmonton is averaging just 28.6 shots per game after finishing with a league-high 32.0 last year, and I also expect the Habs playing a back-to-back road game to open more shooting opportunities for the Oil.

Montreal scorer Cole Caufield rounds out the same-game parlay, and he’s coming off a three-shot performance against the Flames on Wednesday. He paced the team in both shots and attempts last season, and I’m expecting three or more shots from Caufield again tonight, given his role on the top line and No. 1 power-play unit.
