It’s a nothing-to-lose roll of the dice for the New Orleans Saints on Sunday with Tyler Shough making his first start, but the rookie faces an uphill task against a Los Angeles Rams team coming off a bye week.
Shough didn’t exactly light it up during a second-half outing last weekend, so my Saints vs. Rams predictions expect Alvin Kamara to be a popular bailout option against a ferocious L.A. pass rush.

Saints vs Rams Best bet: Alvin Kamara Over 15.5 receiving yards (-114)
There’s no better security blanket for a rookie quarterback than a reliable pass-catcher out of the backfield, so the New Orleans Saints have to be relieved that Alvin Kamara is expected to play on Sunday despite an ankle issue.
While Kamara feels like an obvious trade candidate as the deadline approaches, he’s the most reliable piece in an underwhelming New Orleans offense, and I love the Over on his receiving yards prop this weekend.
Kamara has breezed past this number in three of his past four contests, headlined by five catches for 45 yards against the Patriots in Week 6, and he’s had a reception of at least 12 yards in four of his last six outings.
Those trends feel repeatable in Week 9. Tyler Shough could be under siege against an elite Los Angeles Rams pass rush, and one of the Saints’ counters will surely be to release Kamara as a checkdown option. He won’t even need much volume to cash such a low number.
I also see the game situation nudging the visitors towards the passing game. If New Orleans is playing catch-up in the second half, Kamara becomes an even bigger factor as a receiver — and those are the type of short-yardage throws that L.A. may be willing to give up.
Saints vs Rams same-game parlay
With the Rams giving up just 10 points across their last two games, the Under is an easy pick. This is a horrible matchup for Shough’s first start, with L.A. ranking second in the NFL in sacks (26), and the Under has been a winning ticket in New Orleans’ past four contests.
I’ll double down on a welcome-to-the-NFL afternoon for Shough by taking the Under on his passing yards. He only completed 17 of his 30 passes against the Bucs for 128 yards, and now he’s facing a dominant defensive line led by Jared Verse and Byron Young.

Puka Nacua’s expected return is noteworthy, but Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams have built a nice connection in the red zone.
Adams snared three TD catches against the Jaguars last time out, and I see him hauling in another score on Sunday. The veteran receiver sees plenty of volume too, finishing with 8+ targets in six of his seven games this year.
