The Detroit Lions slipped out of first place in the NFC North over the weekend, but they’ll look to reclaim top spot on Sunday when they face the slumping New York Giants.

That may not be a formality, though, despite New York’s 2-9 record, and my Giants vs. Lions predictions and NFL picks don’t see the G-Men rolling over, even if Detroit ultimately gets its mojo back with a victory.

Giants vs Lions predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Giants vs Lions spread pick: Giants +10.5

-102 at FanDuel

The New York Giants have dropped five in a row, and they’re 0-6 on the road this season, yet there’s a case for taking the points in this game, with New York sitting at 4-2 ATS in its last six games.

Just ask the Packers, who labored to a 27-20 win at MetLife Stadium on Sunday and needed to pick off Jameis Winston in the closing minutes to seal the deal. Whether the Giants turn to Winston or Jaxson Dart, who remains in concussion protocol but has a shot at returning for this Week 12 matchup, this spread feels a few points too high.

As for the Detroit Lions, I’m not overreacting to a rough SNF outing for Jared Goff, who completed just 14 of his 37 passes in Philadelphia, though the team’s 0-for-5 mark on fourth down was alarming.

Back indoors, the Detroit offense should be much better, even with Sam LaPorta still out, and New York’s struggles against the run will be under the microscope again. I’m just hesitant to believe that adds up to a blowout.

I’m not going anywhere near a road upset in this game, but the Lions are 2-3 ATS in their past five games. Give me the double-digit points with a feisty underdog and the back-door cover potential.

Early Giants vs Lions total pick: Over 49.5

-115 at FanDuel

The Detroit offense served up a dud on Sunday, becoming the latest team to be shut down by the Eagles, but a return to the friendlier, warmer confines of Ford Field should make a big difference.

I expect plenty of scoring this weekend, especially with the Lions putting up 30+ points five times already this year. It starts with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery feasting in the ground game against a New York run defense that’s allowing the third-most rushing yards per contest.

The Giants aren’t shy about slinging the ball around, either, despite a spate of injuries. The Over is 5-1 in New York’s last six outings, and it’s been a winning ticket in the past two meetings between these teams, too.

Under interim head coach Mike Kafka, look for the visitors to play with the freedom that comes from a season that’s going nowhere. They ran for three touchdowns against Green Bay, including two scores for veteran Devin Singletary, and there’s a chance that Darius Slayton will be back to give their receiver room a boost.

Whether it’s Dart or Winston under center, the Giants should generate enough big plays to push the total north of 50.
