The Philadelphia Eagles begin their 2026 campaign with a divisional test, and my Commanders vs. Eagles prediction has Philadelphia leaning on Saquon Barkley to take care of business.
Washington heads to Lincoln Financial Field looking to spoil the opener, but the matchup on the ground gives Philadelphia an avenue to control the game and pull away.
The Eagles enter this afternoon as 5.5-point home favorites for the 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.

TOP PICK
Commanders vs Eagles prediction: Eagles -5.5
There’s too much Washington Commanders optimism in this Week 1 line.
The Philadelphia Eagles are the more talented team on both sides of the ball, and that advantage will especially be on display in the trenches.
Washington finished last in quarterback hurries per dropback in 2025, while Philly was able to finish 14th in both sacks and pressure percentage despite blitzing at the third-lowest rate.
As a result, Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels will have his hands full on the road against a Philly defense that doesn’t need to blitz to generate pressure.
While the Commanders did upgrade their defensive personnel and pass rush this offseason, I'm not expecting the new-look 3-4 scheme to click immediately, especially against the Eagles' elite offensive line.
Playable to -6.5.

Commanders vs Eagles combo
The Commanders haven't had an answer for Eagles running back Saquon Barkley over the past two years.
Barkley has run wild against Washington, totaling 428 rushing yards and five touchdowns through just three games since joining Philly, including 5.19 yards after contact per attempt and his highest PFF rushing grade in Week 16 last year.
While the Washington defense is set to improve, it’s still a stop unit that ranked 28th in rush defense DVOA and allowed the fourth-highest rushing success rate in 2025.
Commanders vs Eagles combo
- Eagles -5.5
- Saquon Barkley Over 79.5 rushing yards
- Saquon Barkley anytime touchdown
Commanders vs Eagles touchdown scorer: Saquon Barkley
In addition to the highlighted case for Barkley to score in Week 1, I also value that Philadelphia didn’t bring in competition for his workload this offseason.
The three-time Pro Bowler garnered a 74% snap share with 33.8% of the touches and 48.3% of the carries inside the red zone for the Eagles last year.
With the role remaining the same and Barkley and the offensive line in front of him fresh for Week 1, I recommend backing the go-to rusher to find the end zone at 56.5%.
Commanders vs Eagles player prop: Stefon Diggs 40+ receiving yards - Yes
I’m anticipating Stefon Diggs serving as a security blanket for his quarterback early and often in the season opener, and with Washington a healthy underdog, the Commanders won’t have the luxury of abandoning the passing attack.
With teammate Terry McLaurin (14.1 aDoT) likely to continue operating as more of a downfield threat, Diggs’ underneath route tree will be all the more important to mitigate the Philly pass rush.
Diggs was also sneaky good last season. He finished 14th in PFF receiving grade while pacing the league in reception percentage among wideouts with at least 50 targets.
This prop is in play to 42.5 yards.

Jason Logan looks at the impact of a hot and humid day at Lincoln Financial Field:
"Morning showers pass by this 4:25 pm ET kickoff. Temperatures in the low 80s will flirt with 100 degrees in the first half but get cooler in the 2H. Wind gusts get up to 9 mph West, barely blowing corner to corner at The Linc."
