Don’t put faith in Mario Cristobal. Put faith in the Miami Hurricanes’ defensive line. As good as the Texas A&M Aggies are in the trenches, they can struggle against a top-tier pass rush, and the Hurricanes provide that.

My Miami vs. Texas A&M predictions trust the Hurricanes up front.

Our best Miami vs Texas A&M SGP for CFP First Round

Think back to Week 3. What would the narrative have been the last few weeks if Notre Dame had not dropped the snap on a PAT in the final minutes, and then beaten Texas A&M in overtime? Would the Irish be national title favorites? Would the Aggies have made the Playoff?

Obviously, that is not the world we live in, but it illustrates how thin these margins can be. And it lends some doubt to Texas A&M’s overall quality.

The Aggies benefited from the easiest SEC schedule imaginable, facing only one team in the top 25 of the current SP+ ratings aside from that razor-thin win against Notre Dame. And that was against Missouri’s backup quarterback. So what is Texas A&M’s most impressive result in the last three months? Beating LSU and getting Brian Kelly fired?

Miami is far better than anyone Texas A&M has seen in more than three months.

The only weakness to really worry about with the Hurricanes, aside from Mario Cristobal’s clock management, is their handling of designed-quarterback rushes. The Aggies do not run Marcel Reed often — just as Miami does not throw to star freshman receiver Malachi Toney enough — but leaning on Reed where it matters most should be one A&M edge on Saturday.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
