Nets vs 76ers Picks: Cutting Down the Nets

Joel Embiid could be in for a statement game tonight against a shorthanded Nets squad that struggles to defend inside, even at full strength.

On Wednesday, April 14, the Philadelphia 76ers host the Brooklyn Nets at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This massive Eastern Conference tilt will tip at 7:00 p.m. ET, but there will be some important faces missing. There’s no guarantee that any of Brooklyn’s top players will be out there, so keep an eye on the injury report.

NBA sharp money and line movement report

By Patrick Everson

This line initially went up at Brooklyn -1 late Tuesday night at PointsBet USA, but then came word that most of the Nets' stars will not play tonight. So overnight, the line flipped directly to Philadelphia -6.5 and is out to Philly -8.5 as of 4:30 p.m. ET. And yet Brooklyn is still attracting 52 percent of tickets and 61 percent of money. The total tumbled from 232.5 to 225.5, with the Over seeing 56 percent of tickets and the Under drawing 68 percent of cash.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

With Brooklyn down at least one of its stars and possibly all of them, it’s tough to ask the team to go into Philadelphia and earn a win over a Sixers group that has the same exact record as them. Both of these teams appear to be serious contenders on the season, but the main difference right now is that the Sixers are relatively healthy. Outside of George Hill — who hasn’t yet played a game for Philadelphia — the team will have every other rotation player for this huge matchup with Brooklyn, and that’s just not something that can be ignored.

For as good as the Nets are, Steve Nash’s group does have one weakness this season, and that is its interior defense. Brooklyn has surprisingly played really well on the defensive end in recent weeks, but having to cover Joel Embiid is a whole other beast. Embiid is having the best season of his career, as he is absolutely dominating on both ends of the floor. It wouldn’t be surprising if he really imposes his will on this game, and that’s one of the main reasons that it’s hard to imagine the Nets keeping this one tight.

Normally, Brooklyn would have the firepower to score with anybody, but this team needs some bodies back.

PREDICTION: Sixers -7.0 (-110)

Over/Under pick

With Brooklyn potentially not having all three of its stars, it’d be surprising if the Nets found a way to light up the Sixers.

Philadelphia is second in the league in defensive rating this season, and the team has Embiid sitting in the paint to make things difficult on anybody that attacks the basket. That’s going to make the Nets extremely reliant on the three-point shot, but the Sixers have the type of defenders that can do a good job of chasing Joe Harris around.

And on the other end, Philadelphia doesn’t exactly play at a fast pace. The team runs a lot of offense through Embiid, so this one shouldn’t turn into a shootout.

PREDICTION: Under 228.0 (-110)

Player prop pick

Danny Green might not be a prolific scorer or anything, but he does seem to rise to the occasion when his teams are playing in big spots. Even though this game is against a shorthanded Nets team, it is on national television. With that said, it’s not out of the question that Green gets a little hot and ends up in double figures here. He did score 11 the last time the Sixers faced the Nets, and at plus odds, we like the Over.

PREDICTION: Danny Green 10+ Points (+138)
