Friday's NBA Picks: Blazers Stay Hot

Gary Trent Jr. has been letting it fly with great success since CJ McCollum went down, and he'll look to continue the hot hand against the struggling Cavaliers.

We kick off the weekend with an NBA schedule jam-packed with basketball odds. There are 11 games on the board for hungry basketball bettors to sink their teeth into. Today, we look at some particularly-juicy player prop bets, which includes banking on LeBron James continuing to let it fly from deep when the Los Angeles Lakers host the Memphis Grizzlies. We break down the matchup for that game and more with our best free NBA picks and predictions for Friday, February 12.

NBA Picks for Today

New York Knicks vs Washington Wizards

R.J. Barrett and the New York Knicks will be happy to see a team not named the Miami Heat. The Heat suffocated the already-stagnant New York offense, handing them successive losses where they averaged just 99.5 points per game.

Jimmy Butler and Co. made things particularly tough on Barrett, holding him to a combined 16 points on just 30 percent shooting from the floor. But you know who isn’t the Heat? The Washington Wizards. And that’s exactly who Barrett and the Knicks will face off against on Friday night.

The Wizards are one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA, ranking 29th in defensive rating and opponent field goal percentage and dead last in opponent scoring.

That should give Barrett a little more room to operate, and in the 13 games prior to the pair of matchups against the Heat, he averaged 19.3 points per game on 51.1 percent shooting, including 43.2 percent from deep. Those bad performances vs. Miami gave us a great number to bet - take Barrett to bounce back and go Over his point total.

PREDICTION: RJ Barrett Over 15.5 Points (-110)

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers were dealt a big blow when CJ McCollum went down with a fractured foot. But the Blazers are finding their form without McCollum, and that’s in large part thanks to Gary Trent Jr. stepping up in his absence.

Since Terry Stotts inserted Trent into the Blazers’ starting lineup, he’s averaging 19.3 points per game, which includes shooting 45.9 percent from 3-point range. Now, Trent and the Blazers will look for their fifth win in their last six games when they host the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers.

After a solid start to the season, which saw the Cavs hovering around the .500 mark, Cleveland has now dropped five games in a row, and the defense on which they hung their hats early, has taken a step back.

Cleveland has fallen to 18th in defensive rating and is the second-worst team in the NBA when it comes to defending the perimeter, allowing opponents to shoot nearly 40 percent from beyond the arc. This means Trent should have plenty of opportunities for open looks in this matchup.

PREDICTION: Gary Trent Jr. Over 15.5 Points (-120)

Memphis Grizzlies vs Los Angeles Lakers

Are you ready for the “LeBron is the MVP” narrative for the remainder of the season? Because, while other players suffer injuries and take days off, LeBron just goes out there and plays as well as ever… in his 18th year in the league. James will look to keep building that narrative when the Lakers host the Grizzlies.

LeBron is really letting it fly from deep lately, averaging 8.0 attempts from 3-point range over his last nine games, making 40.3 percent of his attempts. That works out to 3.2 makes per game over that stretch.

On Friday, LeBron goes up against a Grizzlies team that ranks 28th in opponent 3-point percentage. With Anthony Davis and Alex Caruso questionable to play in this matchup, look for James to keep firing away from long range in this one.

PREDICTION: LeBron James Over 2.5 Made Threes
