The Detroit Tigers visit the Tampa Bay Rays tonight for the opener of a three-game set at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

My Tigers vs. Rays predictions are eyeing Detroit to add to Shane Baz’s struggles at home here. Read more in my MLB picks for Friday, June 20.

Tigers vs Rays prediction

My Tigers vs Rays best bet: Shane Baz Over 2.5 earned runs allowed (+125 at DraftKings)

It hasn’t been a great season for Tampa Bay Rays SP Shane Baz, who is sporting a 4.54 ERA in 14 starts. While his 6-3 record is respectable, the righty is getting hit around more often than not. Opponents are hitting .247, and Baz has surrendered 13 home runs.

He’ll have it tough tonight. The Detroit Tigers have one of the best offenses in the majors, ranking fifth in runs, ninth in average, ninth in home runs, and sixth in slugging. Gleyber Torres is the only one in the Detroit lineup to ever face Baz before, but there’s reason to believe they will do some damage against the 26-year-old.

Baz’s ERA balloons to 5.36 at home in 2025, allowing 25 earned runs in only 42 innings of work. He’s cashed the Over in earned runs surrendered in three of his last four outings as well. Baz tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings last time out against the New York Mets, but that was on the road.

The right-hander has hit the Over in earned runs allowed in three of his previous four appearances in Tampa, too. Detroit will get to him tonight and score a few runs, at the very least.

Tigers vs Rays same-game parlay (SGP)

Shane Baz Over 2.5 earned runs allowed

Shane Baz Over 1.5 walks allowed

Yandy Diaz Over 0.5 hits

Baz has allowed 30 walks in 77 1/3 innings this year. Although he’s had starts with minimal free passes, the total for this contest is too low to pass up the value in the Over.

Baz has cashed the Over in base on balls allowed in back-to-back appearances, giving up four against the Mets and three versus the Boston Red Sox. The Tigers are a pretty disciplined offensive club as well, sitting 15th in the bigs in most walks.

The Tigers send Jack Flaherty to the mound tonight, and that will have Yandy Diaz smiling from ear to ear. The Rays star is 2-for-6 lifetime versus Flaherty, and he happens to be swinging it extremely well right now.

Diaz is hitting .271 on the year, and he’s cashed this hits Over in 10 straight games.
