Two teams that are playing out the string near the bottom of the NFC standings will face off on Sunday when the Arizona Cardinals host the Atlanta Falcons.

Neither team plays much defense, and there’s enough firepower here for me to take the Over in my Falcons vs. Cardinals predictions.

Keep reading for a full breakdown of this matchup as I dive into my free NFL picks for December 21.

Falcons vs Cardinals prediction

Falcons vs Cardinals Best bet: Over 48.5 (-105)

When there’s a game this late in the season where the two teams have combined for only eight wins, it’s rarely an exciting matchup. But there might be some fun to be had in this game, where both offenses should get chances to break big plays against two of the worst defenses in the NFL.

The Arizona Cardinals' defense has been particularly porous, giving up 27.7 ppg and an average of 5.8 yards per play. But even those numbers look better than what we’ve seen lately out of the Cardinals, who have allowed 40+ points on four occasions during their six-game losing streak.

That’s an enticing matchup for Bijan Robinson and an Atlanta Falcons passing game that will benefit from the expected return of Drake London. But let’s not pretend Atlanta is exactly shutting down its opposition, either.

The Falcons allow slightly better than 24.4 ppg on the year. And the Cardinals can take advantage of that, with Jacoby Brissett having guided the offense to a minimum of 17 points in every game he’s started.

There’s enough offensive talent here — and little enough defense — that this could quickly turn into a shootout, with both teams getting on the scoreboard plenty. I’m taking the Over.

Falcons vs Cardinals same-game parlay

While neither team in this matchup inspires much confidence, I’ve seen more out of Atlanta and like them to come away with the win by at least a field goal to cover the spread.

Since we’re expecting lots of points, let’s rely on Bijan Robinson to get our parlay home, both with the Over on his rushing total and a touchdown, as he’s gone for 90+ yards and a score in three of his last five games.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
