Brett Bateman has been Toronto’s most consistent contact hitter since reaching the majors, and Saturday is an appealing matchup against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Rhett Lowder.
Bateman bats .320 with a .394 OBP through 172 plate appearances, and he’s even better against righties, hitting .351 with a .440 OBP in those matchups.
Lowder gets hit from both sides, but left-handed bats have done the most damage, slugging .473 with 12 home runs against him.
Lowder’s recent struggles help my case. He owns a 12.33 ERA in September across 15 1/3 innings. At +102, I like asking Bateman for two singles or one extra-base hit.
I’d play this to -110.
COVERS INTEL: Lowder’s last turn lasted three innings against the Cubs and cost five runs on three walks, part of a 1.55 WHIP that keeps traffic on the bases all afternoon.
