Alberta's legal online sports betting market went live in July 2026. This dramatic change follows the May 2025 approval of Bill 48, the iGaming Alberta Act.

The Alberta legal market operates similarly to Ontario's, which authorizes private-sector iGaming operators to conduct legal online sports betting, casino gambling, and poker within the province. Alberta's legal iGaming market welcomed more than 50 operators on day one. However, Dale Nally, Alberta's Minister of Service Alberta and the person leading the launch, shared that he could see the "number as high as 70 operators that want to come to our market."

What I like

Easy-to-use app: I found BetMGM's updated mobile app much easier to navigate than previous versions. The streamlined layout made it simple to browse betting markets, build my bet slip, and place wagers in just a few taps.

Excellent SGPs: I had no trouble creating same-game parlays, and the bet builder responded quickly as I added or removed selections. I also liked the pre-built SGPs, which made it easy to find ready-made betting ideas for popular matchups.

Wide range of banking options: I had plenty of ways to fund my account, with support for Interac, Visa, Mastercard, e-wallets, and other trusted payment methods. Most deposit options are processed instantly and only require a $10 minimum, making it easy to get started.

What I don't like

No phone support: I couldn't find a dedicated phone support line when I needed help. Live chat and email are available, but I'd like to see BetMGM add phone support for faster issue resolution.

Slow withdrawal times: While I had no issues cashing out, my withdrawal wasn't as quick as I'd hoped. BetMGM typically processes payouts within two business days, which is slower than some other Alberta sportsbooks.

What I like

What I like

Extensive sports coverage: I found BetRivers offered a deep selection of betting markets across more than 20 sports. I could easily switch between major North American leagues and niche sports like handball, lacrosse, and cycling without feeling limited.

Excellent NFL live betting: I enjoyed using BetRivers for live NFL betting, especially with the built-in live streaming available for select games. Being able to watch the action and place in-play bets from the same screen made for a much smoother betting experience.

Solid deposit options: BetRivers offers a great range of deposit methods, including Interac, Visa, and Mastercard. 

What I don't like

No 24/7 customer support: I found it easy to reach customer support during regular hours, but I couldn't get help after hours. Outside of live chat availability, I had to rely on email or social media, which isn't as convenient for urgent issues.

Limited withdrawal options: I had fewer payout methods than I expected. While the available options worked without issue, some other Alberta sportsbooks offer more flexibility when it's time to withdraw winnings.

What I like

Great app: bet365 is my pick for the best sports betting app in Canada, as it offers all the same great features — live betting and streaming, secure banking, etc. — as easily as you can find on the desktop version. 

Excellent pricing: bet365 offers the best betting lines in Alberta, enabling you to maximize your deposits. 

NFL live streaming: You can watch and wager on any NFL game directly on bet365, allowing you to never miss a snap or a marquee matchup all season.  

What I don't like

Faulty biometric logins: I've had trouble logging into my bet365 account on my phone due to the platform's biometric log-in features not working. While I simply got access by manually entering my information, bet365 could improve this to further enhance the user experience. 

Frequent crashes: I have found that the bet365 mobile app occasionally crashes, particularly when switching between other apps on your mobile device.
