The Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers clash once again tonight in American League action at Comerica Park. First pitch comes your way at 6:40 p.m. ET.

Jack Flaherty is giving up lots of runs lately, and my Rays vs. Tigers predictions and MLB picks will explain why I’m eyeing that trend to continue on Tuesday, July 8.

Rays vs Tigers prediction

My Rays vs Tigers best bet: Jack Flaherty Over 2.5 earned runs (+125 at bet365)

Jack Flaherty has been an elite strikeout pitcher this season, compiling 109 Ks in just 89 1/3 innings of work. However, he’s been hit around at times. The right-hander owns a 5-9 record and 4.84 ERA in 17 starts. He’s allowed 48 earned runs already, including 16 home runs.

The veteran had a 6.84 ERA in June and gave up three earned runs last time out in five innings of work against the Nationals. In fact, he’s cashed the Over in earned runs surrendered in three consecutive starts.

While Flaherty’s ERA is below 4.00 at home, he was tagged for seven earned runs in mid-June by the Reds at Comerica Park. This Tampa Bay Rays lineup has also had success against Flaherty, batting .333 across 42 at-bats. He’ll need some run support this evening because Tampa Bay will do some offensive damage.

Rays vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

Jack Flaherty Over 2.5 earned runs

Jack Flaherty Over 1.5 walks

Ryan Pepiot Under 2.5 earned runs

We’re sticking with the starting pitchers for tonight’s SGP. Flaherty has also struggled with command at times, allowing 37 free passes. He’s gone Over 1.5 walks in five consecutive starts.

The righty has walked nine batters across his last three starts alone, and he allowed five free passes the last time he took the mound at Comerica Park. He’ll walk another two this evening, at the very least.

Ryan Pepiot is having a very solid campaign for the Rays. He’s gone 6-6 in 18 starts with a 3.34 ERA, striking out 101 in 102 1/3 innings while walking only 33 hitters. The right-hander continues to serve as one of Tampa’s most consistent starters.

He already dominated the Tigers a few weeks back, allowing just one earned run across five innings. Pepiot has gone Under in earned runs allowed in three of his previous four outings, giving up just two earned last Wednesday in six frames against the Athletics.
