San Diego opens a four-game set at Coors as a road favorite, and Hunter Goodman is well-positioned to do damage.

The San Diego Padres take their seven-game winning streak to Coors Field on Monday, Sept. 14 while visiting the Colorado Rockies. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET, and I'm evaluating the matchup in my Padres vs. Rockies predictions.

My MLB picks have the home underdogs earning a win to start the new week.

Who will win Padres vs Rockies today: Rockies (34%)

Casey Mize has good season-long numbers across the platoon, but his inability to miss bats appears to be catching up to him for the San Diego Padres. He has struggled to a 5.56 FIP across the platoon during the last 30 days, with only a 14% strikeout rate. Mize has allowed a 93.1% in-zone contact rate and only posted a 6.4% swinging-strike rate during his last five starts, too. Mize doesn't project well against a lefty-heavy Colorado lineup in the spacious confines of Coors Field on Monday.

His counterpart for the Colorado RockiesTomoyuki Sugano, owns a ghastly 9.38 ERA across his last five turns in the rotation, but a 5.89 xERA and 5.31 FIP indicate he's been at least a little bit unlucky in that span. Sugano's batted-ball profile from that stretch isn't overly alarming -- a 41.8% hard-hit rate is close to the league average, and a 5.5% barrel rate is excellent

Sugano is a tough pitcher for bettors to trust, but Colorado is 8-5 straight up at home this year when the veteran is on the bump. This is good value at the current price and is playable to 36%.

Covers COVERS INTEL: San Diego's arm barn ranks fourth in ERA, second in FIP, and sixth in WHIP on the road in 2026.

Padres vs Rockies Over/Under pick: Under 10.5 (46%)

Neither of these offenses have been seeing the ball particularly well lately. During the last 14 days, the Padres rank 13th in wRC+ and 15th in ISO against right-handed pitching. The Rockies rank 24th in wRC+ and 16th in ISO against righties during that same stretch.

Casey Mize has been struggling across the platoon in recent weeks, but he's still done a good job limiting quality contact in the air, which should help him keep the damage reasonable against the Rockies. Sugano hasn't allowed many barrels lately, either. If both of these starting pitchers can keep the ball in the yard on Monday, runs could be at a relative premium in the early frames.

Both teams should have all of their high-leverage relievers available, too, which could limit scoring opportunities in the late innings.

Playable to 48%.

Padres vs Rockies home run prediction: Hunter Goodman (25%)

Hunter Goodman didn't hit a home run, or even record a barrel, from Aug. 27 to Sept. 6, but he's now hit a pair of home runs in his last five games and appears to be turning a corner.

Tonight he gets to face Mize, who has allowed a 21.9% barrel rate and 59.4% hard-hit rate to right-handed hitters during the last 30 days. This matchup is about as good as it gets for Goodman in terms of home run potential.
