The Marlins are 28-46 against teams over .500, and I expect their struggles to continue against the Diamondbacks (55%).

I'm backing the home team with my Marlins vs. Diamondbacks predictions and MLB picks on Monday, Sept. 14.

The Miami Marlins have consistently failed to get results against quality opponents, owning a 28-46 record facing teams over .500.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have taken care of business vs. sub .500 teams (45-33) and are understandable 55% favorites in the series opener.

Who will win Marlins vs Diamondbacks today: Diamondbacks (55%)

For help understanding probabilities, see our odds calculator.

I have the Arizona Diamondbacks priced at 57%.

They haven’t lit up the scoreboard in September but there are some good signs under the hood. Most notably, they are fifth in line drives and second in fly balls against right-handed pitching.

That sets up well against Sandy Alcantara, who has allowed a lot of fly balls while striking out less than 10% of opposing batters the past 30 days.

Corbin Burnes was still excellent at keeping the ball down last year. That should make life difficult on a Miami Marlins offense already struggling to hit for power.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Alcantara's 31st-percentile ranking in xBA combined with a poor strikeout rate is a bad recipe vs. a high-contact offense.

Marlins vs Diamondbacks Over/Under pick: 7.5 (55%)

I see value in playing the Over to 57%.

The Diamondbacks have struck out just 18.4% of the time vs. righties at home, the third-lowest rate in the league.

That bodes well for their chances of consistently putting balls in play against Alcantara, who has very little punchout ability.

Miami sits fourth in wOBA and eighth in xWOBA against right-handed pitching this month. They’re in good form offensively, and could provide a real challenge for a pitcher still shaking off the rust.

Marlins vs Diamondbacks home run prediction: Ketel Marte (14%)

Ketel Marte has hit safely in nine of his past 10 games. I like his chances of staying hot, and doing some damage, against Alcantara.

By isolating his three most-used pitches against left-handed batters, Marte leads the Diamondbacks in both barrel rate (11.6%) and near home runs (17), according to PropFinder.

Marte also has an encouraging track record against Alcantara. He hit the ball hard in six of eight career at-bats, one of which left the park.
