The Cleveland Guardians sit as a heavy 59% favorite for tonight's series opener against the Chicago White Sox, with first pitch at Progressive Field scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET.

Gavin Williams has been lights out lately, and my White Sox vs. Guardians prediction is riding his dominance to a Cleveland victory.

Find out more in my MLB picks for Monday, Sept. 14.

Who will win White Sox vs Guardians today: Guardians (59%)

For help understanding probabilities, see our odds calculator.

Play this pick up to 62%.

Gavin Williams is in fantastic form for the Cleveland Guardians, sporting a 0.56 FIP over his last 13 innings of work, and allowing just 2.77 BB/9 and zero home runs.

He's also held opponents to a 5% barrel rate during that span, and over the last month, the right-hander owns a 2.60 FIP as well. That profile is perfect against a Chicago White Sox lineup that is incredibly cold, posting a 76 wRC+ in the last week.

As for Sean Newcomb, his 5.11 xERA over the previous two weeks is concerning, and the left-hander has also struggled with command. Cleveland's offense is flourishing at the plate too, with a 120 wRC+ in its last six contests.

The Guards have the edge.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Williams has thrived at home this season, compiling a 2.94 FIP. On the road, that number sits at 4.22.

White Sox vs Guardians Over/Under pick: Over 6.5 (56%)

Play to 60%.

It's rare to see a total this low, and the Over still stands out. I expect Williams to keep Chicago at bay, and while Cleveland's pen has a solid 3.07 FIP recently, the Sox may only need to contribute a couple of runs for this total to clear.

Newcomb is struggling, and the Chicago relief corps is too. They own a 5.50 xERA over the last week while allowing a 44.8% hard-hit rate.

With the Guardians offense red-hot, four or five runs from Cleveland will put this Over in a great spot.

White Sox vs Guardians home run prediction: Jo Adell (14%)

Play to 20%.

Jo Adell's power profile isn't at its best right now, but there's still reason to back him tonight. While Newcomb isn't a home-run-prone starter, he does allow his fair share of fly balls, and Adell has a 39.5% FB rate at home this season.

The slugger just went deep on Sunday afternoon, and he owns a respectable .281 ISO against left-handed pitchers. Adell also has a 41.2% hard-hit rate recently.

Conditions should be comfortable at Progressive Field tonight, with temperatures sitting around 65 degrees at first pitch before dipping into the low 60s. There’s no rain in the forecast, and winds should remain light at roughly 4-6 mph, so weather shouldn’t have a major impact.
