The Seattle Mariners (25-19) aim for a sweep of the San Diego Padres (27-17) in the series finale at PETCO Park on Sunday afternoon.

Prepare for a pitcher’s duel between two sub-3.00 ERA starters: Seattle’s Bryan Woo and San Diego’s Michael King.

See why I’m targeting Woo’s player props with my Mariners vs. Padres predictions and MLB picks for Sunday, May 18.

Mariners vs Padres prediction

My Mariners vs Padres best bet: Bryan Woo Over 18.5 outs recorded (+133 at Caesars)

Michael King (2.32 ERA, 3.11 xERA, 3.24 FIP) and Bryan Woo (2.84 ERA, 2.92 xERA, 2.69 FIP) set the stage for a fascinating series finale.

Both have been superb — King has yet to allow more than three earned runs in any start, whereas Woo has done so just once in his last six starts.

One thing that sets them apart is longevity.

Woo has done a good job pitching deep into games, recording at least 18 outs in every start. King, meanwhile, has done so just once in his last nine outings.

The books are offering plus money on Woo to exceed 18.5 outs. That’s generous considering his remarkable consistency and that he’s notched 19+ outs in four of his last six appearances.

The San Diego Padres aren’t picky at the plate, seeing the fourth-fewest pitches per plate appearance (3.76).

They notoriously avoid punchouts, having the Majors' lowest K rate (18.4%). Woo pitches to contact with a 94th percentile walk rate (4.1%), so he stands a good chance of pitching deeper into this game than normal.

The 25-year-old has strong numbers overall, so there’s a lot to like about his game heading into what would normally be perceived as a difficult road matchup for a young pitcher.

The Cal Poly product ranks 10th among qualified starters in Pitching+ (110) thanks to his combination of nasty offerings (104 Stuff+) and pinpoint command (109 Location+).

The Seattle Mariners used four different relievers in Saturday’s 4-1 victory, and all of them threw at least 10 pitches, so Woo may have a little bit of extra room on his leash.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Mariners vs Padres same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 7.5

Michael King Over 6.5 strikeouts

Bryan Woo Over 4.5 strikeouts

Continuing the theme of Sunday’s meeting turning into a pitching duel, this three-leg SGP combines the full game total Under with an Over on both starters’ respective strikeout props.

Seattle has cashed the Under in four straight games, combining with its opponents to average just 4.8 total runs per game.

The lineup has mustered an 89 wRC+ (25th) and .287 wOBA (27th) against right-handed pitching since May 1. They have a 24.5% K rate in that span, and King has recorded 7+ strikeouts in four of his last five outings.

Woo has recorded 5+ punchouts in all but one start this season, and he stands a good chance of doing so again if he does pitch deep into the game.
