The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox face off in tonight's edition of the Crosstown Classic.
Pete Crow-Armstrong has been on a tear, and my Cubs vs. White Sox predictions are betting on that to continue in a favorable matchup.
Here are my best free MLB picks for this interleague clash on Saturday, July 26.
Cubs vs White Sox prediction
My Cubs vs White Sox best bet: Pete Crow-Armstrong Over 1.5 total bases (+105 at bet365)
With the season he's having, Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong should be practically an auto bet on his Over 1.5 total bases prop anytime he's facing a subpar starter.
PCA is eighth in the majors in slugging percentage (.556) while racking up 220 total bases through 101 games. The hard-hitting outfielder has been on fire this month, slugging .639.
Crow-Armstrong also slugs .610 with the platoon advantage, which he'll have today against Chicago White Sox starter Aaron Civale, who has pitched to a 4.76 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP in 12 starts.
Civale has a tough time making batters miss, sitting in the bottom 10th percentile in strikeout rate and the bottom 20th in barrel rate. He's also in the bottom 15th percentile in ground ball rate, which makes a fly-ball hitter like PCA a nightmare matchup.
Cubs vs White Sox same-game parlay (SGP)
Pete Crow-Armstrong 2+ total bases
Aaron Civale Over 2.5 earned runs
Cade Horton 4+ strikeouts
Cube -1.5
Civale is coming off a strong outing, but that came against the Pirates' worst-ranked offense in the majors. He had allowed 4+ earned runs in four of his previous five starts, and now he faces a Cubs lineup that is third in OPS (.776) on the road.
Cubs rookie Cade Horton has been inconsistent, but he has fanned 4+ batters in five of his last seven starts. He'll face a White Sox lineup that is 29th in the majors in OPS (.660) and 24th in strikeout rate (23.2%).
The Cubs are 60-43 and have the highest run differential in the majors at +110. Meanwhile, the White Sox have baseball's second-worst record at 38-66 with a run differential of -66.
Since we're already backing PCA and Horton to have good games, and Civale to struggle, it makes sense to also play the Cubs on the run line in this SGP.
