Two of the National League's best clash tonight at American Family Field when the Milwaukee Brewers host the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Brewers snapped a six-game losing streak with back-to-back wins over Miami and are slim MLB betting home favorites over the Cardinals, who lead Milwaukee by two games in the NL Central.

Unfortunately for the Brew Crew, they are a bit banged up. Will a shorthanded Milwaukee team get the job done against St. Louis? Find out in our free Cardinals vs. Brewers picks and predictions for Tuesday, May 11, with first pitch set for 7:40 p.m. ET.

Starting pitchers

Kwang-hyun Kim (1-0, 3.06 ERA): Kim doesn’t have world-beating stuff but he’s an effective option for the Cardinals. The lefty has allowed only one run in three consecutive outings, but he hasn’t given St. Louis six innings of work in any of them. He’s unlikely to go too far in this game, but the Cardinals wouldn’t mind if he keeps the Brewers in line for five frames.

Freddy Peralta (3-1, 3.38 ERA): Peralta is coming off his worst start of the season, as he gave up five earned runs in four innings of work against the Phillies. However, the righty is in the midst of a great year, as he has earned himself an undeniable spot in Milwaukee’s rotation. Peralta has always had some of the best strikeout ability in baseball, but his command has given him issues. It’ll be interesting to see if the three walks he issued last game are an outlier, as that’s the only thing that can drag him down now.

Moneyline pick

Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt, and Paul DeJong are a combined 9 for 20 with four home runs and eight RBI against Peralta in their careers, and that alone would make the Cardinals a good value in this matchup.

Peralta might be the more likely of the two pitchers to turn in a stellar outing on any given night, but Kim is seemingly a bit sturdier. Peralta has had control issues in the past, and St. Louis’ best hitters have already had success against him. If he starts the game off with a walk or two in the first few innings, his confidence could get a little shaky. That would lead to either more walks or some extra-base hits, as he’ll be guiding his pitches into the strike zone.

If Kim can give the Cardinals five or so innings of one or two-run ball, he will have done more than enough for his team to have a chance in this one, especially with Christian Yelich still out and Lorenzo Cain and Avisail Garcia — righty hitters that historically have done well against southpaws — also questionable.

PREDICTION: Cardinals (+100)

Over/Under pick

As mentioned above, St. Louis has the type of bats that can give Peralta a lot of trouble in this game. All of the Cardinals have the ability to do some damage in this one, and that makes this total seem a little low to begin with.

However, with Kim’s inability to work deep into games, Milwaukee will get plenty of chances against the St. Louis bullpen. This total sits at a relatively low number, but it should be a pretty high-scoring game.

PREDICTION: Over 7.5 (+105)
