The Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins wrap up a quick two-game interleague set at Target Field in Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon, with MLB odds setting the home side as favorites.
The Brewers held a 5-2 lead at the seventh inning stretch in Tuesday’s series opener, and it appeared that the team’s four-game losing streak was about to end. But the bullpen frittered away the lead, and Minnesota ended up with the 7-5 win.
The big hit for the Twins Tuesday was a 2-run walk-off home run by Carlos Correa, as Minnesota erased a 5-3 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Milwaukee fans and bettors probably didn’t think it could get any worse after getting swept in their home building by the lowly Oakland Athletics. The Brewers bullpen, pardon the pun, said “Hold my beer!”.
It’s not much of a surprise, as Milwaukee’s bullpen has a 4.29 ERA with 34 home runs allowed. The ERA is good for No. 11 in the National League, and the homers allowed ranks No. 12.
The Twins were more than happy to add to the Brewers’ woes. Minnesota kept from slipping back under .500, and it now sits 2.5 games clear of the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central Division.
In recent seasons, Target Field has been a house of horrors for the Brew Crew, going just 2-5 in the past seven trips.
Brewers RHP Colin Rea is tasked with stopping the skid. He’s a respectable 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in two outings in June, but also 1-1 with a 4.57 ERA in 21 2/3 innings across four road outings.
To be honest, the starting pitcher for Milwaukee hasn’t been horrible during the skid, it’s the bullpen and lack of offense — at least timely offense. The Brewers are averaging just 3.4 runs per game during the losing streak, while allowing 5.6 runs per outing.
Twins RHP Bailey Ober gets the ball for the home side, and he has actually been a touch better on the road, with a stellar 1.96 ERA, while posting a 1-2 record, 2.97 ERA and .208 opponent batting average in 33 1/3 innings over six home starts. His problem hasn’t been pitching, but he has not received great run support.
However, I’m feeling the Twins at home behind Ober, but I think Rea will keep the Brewers in the game. Like last night’s game, I feel Minnesota gets to the bullpen and wins in a lower-scoring game on getaway day.

While I’m backing the Twinkies in this matinee game, looking at the single-game parlay makes me check out Rea, too.
Minnesota strikes out more than any team in the majors, whiffing an alarming 689 times through 67 games, which leads the San Francisco Giants by 40. In fact, Minnesota is the only team averaging more than 10 strikeouts per game on offense — 10.28 times per game to exact.
Rea isn’t known as a strikeout pitcher, per se, but he has some decent stuff, and he struck out eight Baltimore Orioles in five scoreless innings in a no-decision last time out last Thursday.
That was his second-highest K total this season. Look for Rea to eclipse 4.5 strikeouts rather early in his afternoon.
In addition, Rea has allowed three or more runs in three of his past five outings, and he has coughed up three or more earned runs (10 total) in his past three starts on the road. As a result, I really like Rea allowing at least three runs in this one. Playing these three legs is good for +409.

Brewers vs Twins moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The Twins have had their way with the Brewers at Target Field in recent years, and the Brewers took a giant hit with a gut-wrenching loss after it appeared a win was in the bag.
Milwaukee is now just 2-5 in the past seven interleague games on the road, and it is obviously 0-4 in the past four after a loss. Minnesota is not exactly lighting the world afire lately with just two wins in the past eight, but it should use Friday’s comeback heroics as a springboard into the rest of the week.
As far as the total, the Under is 8-3-2 in the past 13 games for Milwaukee, as the offense has had a hard time getting started. The Under is 3-1-1 in the past five vs. RHP, too.
For the Twins, the Under is 4-1 in the past five at home, although the Over cashed Tuesday. The Over is 5-2 in the past seven interleague games at home, too. However, I think Rea and Ober actually pitch well, and the lean is to go low on the total Wednesday.

Starting pitchers
Colin Rea (3-3, 4.47 ERA): The right-hander has lasted at least five innings, which is good news. The longer he can go, the less time the bullpen goes, and that’s good for everybody. He also has 19 strikeouts across the past three games, posting at least five in each start. That’s great news against a free-swinging and oft-missing Minnesota offense.
Bailey Ober (6-2, 3.18 ERA): The North Carolina righty has lost three straight decisions across the past four outings, although he hasn’t been hit terribly hard. It’s hard not to hold Ls when your offense does nothing for you. The Twins have given him four runs of offensive support in his past four starts.
