Thank goodness this is a getaway game because the Atlanta Braves can’t wait for the Blue Jays to get out of town. Atlanta has lost all five games it has played against Toronto this season, getting outscored 35-16 in the process.

The Braves will hand the ball to Charlie Morton as they try to avoid the sweep while the Blue Jays will counter with Ross Stripling in a matchup of starters looking for a bounce-back performance.

Blue Jays vs Braves betting preview

Starting pitchers

Ross Stripling (0-2, 6.61 ERA): It has been a rough start to the season for Stripling. On top of spending time on the IL, the right-hander has yet to pitch more than five innings in any of his four starts and has a WHIP of 1.90 to go along with that sub-par ERA.

Charlie Morton (2-2, 4.98 ERA): Morton’s first season in Atlanta has not started the way he would have hoped. The right-hander has struggled with the command on a couple of his pitches. As a result, his walks are way up and he has allowed four or more runs in four of his last five starts.

Moneyline pick

The Braves will be more than happy to see the Blue Jays pack up and leave Atlanta after dropping five straight games against them this season. But the Braves will have a chance to salvage a win in the series finale.

After getting shut down by another southpaw, the Braves will be much more excited to see right-hander Ross Stripling on the bump. As noted, Stripling has been struggling this season. He has had trouble with his command and is leaving too many pitches over the heart of the plate.

As a result, Stripling allowing opponents to hit a ridiculous .338 against him while walking almost four batters per nine innings and has already given up seven dingers this season. That doesn’t bode well against a talented Braves lineup that ranks 10th in scoring, ninth in OPS, and leads the majors in home runs per game.

While Morton has been struggling as well, it hasn’t been as bad as Stripling. Bet the Braves to steal the finale game of this series.

PREDICTION: Braves (-135)

Over/Under pick

The total for this matchup hit the board at 9, and while this is a getaway game, don’t expect these teams to pack up the bats early. As noted, Stripling has had his problems this season, and the Braves should be able to eclipse their 4.76 runs per game.

But Morton hasn’t been much better and faces a Blue Jays lineup that ranks ninth in batting average and fifth in OPS against right-handed pitchers and has averaged 6.25 runs per game over the last 12 contests. Then Morton hands the ball to a shaky bullpen that ranks 22nd in ERA and 25th in WHIP.

There’s nothing like afternoon baseball with no shortage of runs and that should be the case here. Bet the Over.

PREDICTION: Over 9 (-110)
