The Midsummer Classic is upon us, and the MLB All-Star Game predictions are rolling in.
With no shortage of star power, the All-Star Game MVP odds favor the two biggest names in the sport, Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge.
However, with this game likely to be close throughout, my MLB picks shine a light on a youngster set to come off the bench.

MLB All-Star Game MVP favorites
Shohei Ohtani
Shohei Ohtani has won a lot of awards in his short time in the Majors. He's won League MVP twice, the NL MVP once, the World Baseball Classic MVP once, the AP Male Athlete of the Year twice, and he's got one World Series ring to his name. The only thing missing is an All-Star game MVP trophy.
While this award is more of a crapshoot than the others, Ohtani enters the ASG in excellent form. He's slashing .276/.987/605 with 32 home runs and 60 RBI. He's not one to shy away from the bright lights and is the rightful favorite when it comes to the early betting market.
Aaron Judge
Aaron Judge is in the same boat as Ohtani. He's got multiple individual awards to his name, but has not yet won an ASG MVP award.
Judge is having a great season and is currently the odds-on favorite to win AL MVP.
He leads the league in batting average and hits, while sitting second in home runs, RBI, and runs scored. He's doing it all, so it would only be fitting he did it all for the AL on route to his first MVP award.
MLB All-Star Game MVP pick
My best bet: James Wood to win MVP (+3500 at Caesars)
While Ohtani and Judge will get all the press, the All-Star game MVP tends to favor those who don't start the game.
Last year, Jarren Duran came off the bench to break a 3-3 tie in a game the American League ended up winning.
In 2021, Elias Diaz's late-game home run gave the National League a 3-2 lead in a game they ended up winning.
Both players were priced at 50/1 or better.
While a big early showing from the likes of Ohtani, Judge, or any other starter is not out of the question, if the game hangs in the balance, I'd rather back a longshot off the bench that can deliver in crunch time.
This is why I'm backing James Wood. He's been rock solid for the Nationals this season, and at just 23 years old, has the potential to shine under the bright lights.
