MLB Sharp Money and Line Movement Report

By Patrick Everson

FanDuel opened Chicago as -136 chalk, stretched to -154 overnight, but then backed well off to -120, where the moneyline sits at 12:30 p.m. ET. Still, the White Sox are taking 74 percent of tickets and 63 percent of cash. The total is 7.5, seeing only a price adjustment from the flat -110 to Under -130, even though ticket count is 2/1 and money 4/1 on the Over.

Twins vs White Sox betting preview

Starting pitchers

Michael Pineda (2-1, 2.43 ERA): Pineda has always had a ton of potential, and it seems as though he’s starting to realize it in Minnesota. Last year, Pineda had a 3.38 ERA in five starts with Minnesota, and that would have been a career-best mark if extrapolated over a full season. This year, Pineda has been even better, posting a 2.43 ERA through six starts.

Lance Lynn (3-1, 1.52 ERA): Lynn is coming off a start in which he struck out six batters in five scoreless innings, and his ERA of 1.52 is rather absurd right now. Eventually, Lynn will start to move back to the 3.50 ERA area, but the White Sox will embrace his dominance for as long as they can. For what it’s worth, Lynn hasn’t started a game against the Twins since 2019, and he also spent time with the team in 2018.

Moneyline pick

In Pineda’s last three starts against the White Sox, he has pitched 18 innings and given up only seven earned runs. That averages out to three quality starts for the righty, who is looking to continue building on the best season of his up-and-down career. Pineda occasionally runs into some trouble with the longball, as he has given up four over the last three games. He is, however, facing a White Sox team that has the fewest home runs in the American League. The only player on this Chicago team that has given him issues in the past is Tim Anderson, but Pineda will need to be extra careful there.

Lynn has been phenomenal this season, but he could potentially struggle against this Twins team. Minnesota probably isn’t going to put up a massive number against him, but Lynn has had trouble with left-handed hitters in his career, and the Twins have a few that could do some damage at the plate today. Keep an eye on Jorge Polanco and Max Kepler. This season hasn’t been kind to either of them, but this is a get-right opportunity for both.

PREDICTION: Twins ML +116

Over/Under pick

With the way both of these guys are pitching, it’s hard to suggest going with the Over. Three of Pineda’s last five starts would have gone Under this mark, and the opposing team hasn’t scored more than four runs in any of Lynn’s last four outings.

Something’s going to have to give with one of these guys today, but even if Lynn does slip up a little, the Under should still be the right side here. These teams likely got most of their hitting production out of the way in last night’s 13-8 win for Chicago.

PREDICTION: Under 7.5 (-110)
