What's happening with real money online casinos in Virginia in 2026?
Where Virginia stands in October 2026
Virginia has no legal real-money online casino market, despite coming closer than most states this year. Del. Marcus Simon's House Bill 161 would have tied online gaming licenses to Virginia's five existing commercial casinos, letting each partner with up to three third-party mobile operators for up to 15 total platforms, with a $2 million fee attached to every platform and a requirement that live-dealer studios stay based in-state. The bill cleared its first committee votes in late January, and both chambers eventually passed their own versions, but the House and Senate couldn't reconcile their differences in conference before the session ended on March 16, 2026.
That same bill would have banned sweepstakes casinos as part of the deal, pairing legalization with a dual-currency prohibition carrying civil penalties up to $250,000 per offense. A separate bill, Senate Bill 579, targeted sweepstakes casinos on its own, but lawmakers amended it into something softer. Rather than an outright ban, it now directs the Virginia Lottery Board to convene a work group and study the sweepstakes industry, with recommendations due before the 2027 session. Since neither the combined iGaming-and-ban bill nor the standalone ban actually passed, sweepstakes casinos remain fully legal and operating in Virginia while that study plays out.
Expect both fights to return in 2027. Proponents of online casino legalization are already signaling they'll bring the iGaming bill back, and if a future version passes without a second reenactment clause, Virginia's first regulated online casinos could still launch before the end of 2027.
The best Virginia online casinos
Our editors have spent hundreds of hours playing at, testing and tracking customer reviews on over 250 legal sweepstakes casinos.
We only recommend sweeps casinos that provide excellent gaming experiences. Top marks go to casinos with a:
- Simple sign up process
- Easy to navigate game menu
- Great game play
- Frequent free coin drops & social media contests
- Quick and easy redemptions
See below for our reviews that highlight the best and most trusted sweeps casinos open to players in VA:
1. Crown Coins Casino - Best for weekly tourneys and challenges
"Crown Coins has a reputation for big sign-up bonuses, a great iPhone app, and a top-tier slots catalog, even if the size of the catalog isn't the biggest. I recommend checking out the early-bird titles and playing the weekly challenges. One area Crown Coins can improve is with a wider variety of games, although there are a reasonable 450+ titles available. This is on the low side for an elite sweeps casino — McLuck has 1,000+ and Stake.us has 2,000+."

"Crown coins has a large variety of great games, fast SC payouts and is always offering deals on their gold coin and SC packages. Ive never had any issue redeeming a cash-out. It is definitely one of my favorite sites to spin on."
"CrownCoins is amazing! They constantly give great bonuses and always have affordable gold coin packages to purchase that come with a generous amount of sweeps coins for free. There's a daily login bonus, plus there's daily drops on their social media and through emails. Redemption has been easy and quick, I have never had an issue."
"I'm sure I've already left a review or two here, but by far my favorite site... redemptions are quick and easy with Skrill, almost not even 20 hours before redemptions are honored!! Wouldn't choose any other gaming site as my first choice: great loyalty rewards, great hits and fast redemptions!!"
2. FreeSpin - Best coin flexibility
"The thing that separates FreeSpin from the pack is how much control it hands you over your own coins. Instead of funneling you into three or four fixed packages, it lets you build your own Gold Coin and Sweeps Coin mix, and you can fund with crypto or standard payment methods, which almost no sweeps site does. That flexibility carried through the whole experience for me, right down to being able to reach a human on 24/7 phone support, not just chat.
The games back the flexibility up, with close to 1,000 titles from 25 studios and a Fresh Releases shelf that kept turning over, plus the daily Funzone box to pull you back in. It's a young site, launched July 2025, and it shows in a few spots: no downloadable app, a thin promotions tab, no guaranteed free SC in the sign-up, and a live chat bot that doesn't always work as expected.

Site speed is good, nice RTP, a lot of different games, has been my go-to site for months now, hope they continue like this 🔥
3. LoneStar - Best for reliability
"LoneStar is worth understanding as part of a family. It's built by RealPlay Tech, the same team behind the well-regarded RealPrize, and it inherits the foundation that matters, proven payout options and a shared VIP structure, even though it only opened in March 2025. That lineage is why I trusted it enough to test the slow-payout complaints floating around Reddit, and my Skrill cashout came back fee-free from a Thursday request to a Tuesday arrival.
Where it's carving out its own identity is the game shelf. There are 24 Fresh Releases and a CCTV-themed set (Fast Lane, Rush Hour, Snow Run) I haven't seen on other platforms, plus video poker and Texas Hold'Em beyond the slots. The daily 5,000 GC and 0.3 SC and $2.99 coin bundles keep it accessible. The catches are a thin live dealer library, PWA-only access, and a 45 SC redemption floor I'd like closer to the 10 SC McLuck offers."

"I play on several platforms and LoneStar Casino stands out in the crowd. Generous daily bonuses and social media rewards truly give everyone a descent chance to win without having to spend a single penny."
4. Stake.us - Best exclusive game library
"If you care about playing something you can't get anywhere else, Stake.us is the pick. The Stake Originals are in-house classics featuring Mines, Plinko, Dice, Keno, and more, with RTPs that push past 98%, and there's a rotating 'Only on Stake' shelf of titles like Double Flux and Rage of Egypt you won't find on rival sites. That exclusive layer sits on top of the largest catalog in this group by a wide margin, over 2,200 games against RealPrize's 700 and Crown Coins' 400-plus.
It's the most demanding of the four, though, and you should go in knowing that. Funding is crypto-only, the playthrough is 3x where most rivals sit at 1x, and the full welcome bonus releases across a month rather than up front. The reward for clearing those hurdles is speed at the end, since verified crypto redemptions are instant, the fastest I've come across."
✅ Largest library here with 2,200+ games
✅ Instant crypto redemptions once verified
✅ Daily bonus drop codes
✅ New iOS app
✅ Weekly drop codes, slot battles, daily races
✅ Exclusive Stake Originals and 'Only on Stake' titles
❌ Crypto only
❌ 3x playthrough requirement

📝 Stake.us player reviews
"I’ve had a very positive experience with Stake.US. I’ve found their site to be fun and fair and trustworthy in all of my transactions and gameplay. Best site for rewards and professionalism, by far."
"Overall I’ve done well playing on Stake. I appreciate the instant payouts, bonus codes offered on social media, Saturday stream codes, and challenges. I have nothing bad to say about Stake, overall it’s been a great experience."
"Immediate real cash payout Great selection of games. Very prompt responses from live support 24 hours a day. Best VIP program I’ve ever experienced with daily, weekly, and monthly bonuses. Tailored bonuses as you move up. Immediate withdrawal/cash-out capabilities."
5. RealPrize - Best for new players
"RealPrize is the easiest of these four to walk into as a new player. Signing up alone drops 100,000 GC and 2 free SC in your account, coin bundles start at just $3 if you want to pay, and the daily bonus is one of the strongest around. Nothing about the on-ramp asks much of you, which is exactly what a first-time sweeps player wants.
Plus, once you're in, there's real substance to grow into. The catalog has more than 700 games, with a deeper live and variety lineup than most sweeps sites, including live game shows, Dream Catcher, Sic Bo, blackjack, roulette, and video poker, and a seven-tier loyalty program plus a 70-free-SC referral reward the more you stick around. The exclusive $25 first-purchase deal (2 million GC, 80 free SC, 1,000 VIP points) is there when you're ready to commit. The only two caveats are that there's no Android app and live chat is reserved for VIP members only."
✅ Generous no-spend welcome, 100,000 GC + 2 free SC
✅ Fantastic daily free coin bonuses
✅ 700+ games with strong live and variety content
✅ Seven-tier loyalty and 70-free-SC referral programs
✅ Low $3 entry and an on-screen daily bonus

"After trying several different online casinos, I've decided that Realprize is by far the superior choice. I've found that the comps and promos are considerably higher than most. The website is easy to use. Customer service is very helpful."
"Real Prize is probably one of the most generous social casinos, with social media free spins and log in bonuses daily. I was initially a little nervous about my recent redemption, but it was approved in 3 days, and in my account via debit card instantly"
"I haven't been able to win on here for quite some time it seems bt other than that, I have no real issues with Real Prize Casino. It's actually one of my top fave right now bc it is legit when it comes to redemptions, chances of getting free play, daily bonuses, etc."

How we rate and review Virginia online casinos
Our evaluation of Virginia online casinos uses a stringent set of criteria, known as our Covers BetSmart Rating system, to ensure a quality gaming experience for all, rooted in transparency and credibility. Below is a brief outline of how rate casinos and how we create our Virginia online casino reviews in 2026:
Bonuses and promotions
We assess the variety and generosity of casino bonuses, including online casino no-deposit bonus offers and welcome promotions, loyalty programs, and daily rewards. This factor is crucial for providing players with ongoing value.
Banking and payout speed
We evaluate the range of diverse, secure, and convenient banking options at an online casino. We look for the fast payout casinos, the best payout casino sites, and view speed as a key indicator of a casino's reliability and respect for its customers.
Software and games
When rating an online casino in Virginia, we consider the quality and quantity of games. Software providers, the range and types of games available, and the overall gaming experience are all important factors.
Security and trust
This includes examining regulatory compliance, data encryption, and fair play certifications. A secure and trustworthy Virginia online casino provides players with peace of mind.
App experience
With many players opting to game on mobile, we evaluate the casino's mobile platform, including app availability, user interface, and general accessibility.
Customer support
Effective customer service is key to a fun experience. We consider the availability of support channels (like live chat, email, and phone support), responsiveness, and the quality of assistance provided.
Virginia online casino news & updates
Virginia legalized brick-and-mortar casinos in 2019, while online sports betting was approved in 2021. Sweepstakes casino sites are currently available to VA players, and regulating real money online casinos is the next logical step.
The journey towards legal real money online casinos has picked up the pace lately. Here are some of the key recent updates regarding Virginia online casinos:
- Virginia's iGaming push is building momentum again heading into 2027, even after this year's bipartisan House and Senate bills died without reconciliation. DraftKings CEO Jason Robins has separately called the DC-Maryland-Virginia region a bright spot, arguing the size of the existing offshore market only strengthens the case for regulating it. With Maryland's 2026 effort stalling and DC still just holding hearings, Virginia looks like the region's best shot at legalization in 2027.
- Virginia's sweepstakes casino ban is officially on hold until 2027. The Virginia Lottery Board must convene a study group to examine the sweepstakes industry's impact, with findings due to lawmakers by December 1, 2026, ahead of the next session starting January 13, 2027. Sweepstakes casinos remain fully legal and operating in Virginia in the meantime.
- Virginia online casino players will have to wait until 2027 for regulated options in the state, with the final amendment of the most recent legislation attempt failing to pass through the House and Senate.
- Will momentum around Virginia's two new online casino bills a trickle down affect on nearby states? That's the general impression around the industry after Maine's surprising decision to legalize online casinos already this year and more and more states realizing the sheer volume of tax revenue that's being siphoned off by offshore and sweepstakes casinos. Even though real money iGaming still has some obstacles in VA, and won't come online before 2027, it's starting to look like a bellwether for online casino legalization efforts elsewhere.
- Senate Bill (SB) 118 has passed both the House and the Senate, pushing real money online casinos closer to reality - although it'll still be 2027 before any casinos can go live.
- One more successful vote from the Virginia House of Delegates gaming subcommittee, one step closer to real money online casino in Virginia.
- One more successful vote from the Virginia House of Delegates gaming subcommittee, one step closer to real money online casino in Virginia.
- Virginia might just be the frontrunner to become the 9th U.S. state with legal real money online casinos. After a slight delay to enhance responsible gambling and customer protections, Bill SB118 is on to the Senate Finance Committee for its next approval. The bill in this form would allow VA's five live casinos to each partner with three online casino providers for a total of 15 legal real money online casinos.
- A new year, a new online casino bill for Virginia. Del. Marcus Simon introduced Bill HB 161 that would authorize real money casino gaming in VA overseen by the Virginia Lottery Board. Much is similar to the bill Simon introduced last year, although this time around a higher proportion (11% vs. 2.5%) allocated to problem gambling.

How we rate and review Virginia online casinos
Here's exactly how we put a Virginia sweepstakes casino to the test before it earns a place on this list. Six categories make up the full evaluation, and a site will need to excel in each one to make the cut. Here's the full breakdown for 2026:
Bonuses and promotions
The no-deposit bonus Virginia players get on sign-up is just the entry point for us when it comes to promotions. We understand that everything after the first session is what really matters for returning players.
Coin purchases and redemptions
We put the redemption side first because it's where sites most often fall short. Every operator on this list has had Sweeps Coins cashed out by our own team, timed against our fast payout rankings rather than whatever turnaround the site advertises. From there, we check whether the Gold Coin packages scale fairly as you spend more, or whether the better per-dollar value only shows up at the top tier.
Games and software
A big number on a homepage means little if most of those titles are reskins of the same base game. We look for a roster built on the backs of established studios like Evolution, NetEnt, and BGaming, and we want to see the catalog actually grow over time. Slots dominating the lobby is fine, but a site earns extra credit for building out live dealer tables or genuine table games alongside them.
Security and trust
Virginia's relationship with sweepstakes casinos is currently under review, a state study is weighing whether the model needs new rules before lawmakers return in 2027, so we're not relying on regulators to vet these sites for us. Our own bar is independent of that process. We look for real SSL-secured accounts, a sweepstakes structure that genuinely offers a free path to play, and a track record of paying real players rather than a page full of unverifiable promises.
Mobile experience
Most Virginia players we see are on a phone browser rather than a downloaded app, so that's where we spend our testing time first, checking load speed, menu responsiveness, and whether every game actually opens without a hitch on both iOS and Android browsers. If a site does offer a dedicated app on top of that, we hold it to the same standard as the desktop site rather than giving it a pass for being a stripped-down companion version.
Customer support
Support quality rarely matters until a redemption request goes sideways, which is exactly when we test it. We send real queries through live chat and email and clock how long an actual answer takes to arrive, not just an auto-reply. Sites staffed late into the night or around the clock consistently score ahead of ones that stop responding once business hours end.
