We’ve got a rubber match between two AL East foes as the Toronto Blue Jays host the New York Yankees in their series finale tonight.

Chris Bassitt starts for Toronto and has a good track record against the Yanks. My Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks expect another deep outing for the veteran righty on Wednesday, July 23.

Blue Jays predictions for July 23

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Bassitt gets better of Bombers

Chris Bassitt Over 17 outs recorded (-125 at BetVictor)

The Toronto Blue Jays aim to get back on track with a win against the New York Yankees tonight in the rubber match. It’ll be a quality pitching duel with the Yankees starting Max Fried, and Toronto sending Chris Bassitt to the mound.

Bassitt has been an innings eater, consistently pitching six full, and I expect him to do it again and go over his posted outs total of 17.

The Jays veteran has recorded 17+ outs in seven of his last eight starts, including Bassitt’s July 3 start against the Yankees.

Bassitt has had New York's number over the course of his career, sporting a 4-1 record against the pinstripes with a 2.03 ERA. He's averaging 19 outs per start vs. the Bombers.

A big reason for that is the limited power Bassitt allows. He ranks in the 94th percentile in average exit velocity and the 87th percentile in hard-hit rate. It's resulted in just four homers allowed over his nine outings since June 1.

The Yankees rely on the long ball to score runs, ranking first in hard-hit rate with 157 home runs this season. If Bassitt forces a lot of soft contact, as he typically does, it should allow for another low-scoring, deep outing from the Jays starter.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Chris Bassitt Over 17.5 outs recorded

Chris Bassitt Over 4.5 strikeouts

George Springer Over 1.5 total bases

For the first leg of our SGP, we’ll amend our best bet slightly and take Over 17.5 outs recorded for Bassitt.

Next, let’s continue to back Bassitt’s pitching performance and take him to record Over 4.5 strikeouts. He rang up nine Yankees batters a few weeks ago, and the pinstripes have struck out the seventh-most among all MLB teams.

For the final leg of my SGP, give me George Springer to go Over 1.5 total bases. He’s been seeing the ball well since returning from the All-Star break, going 8-for-18 with five runs scored. He’s also a career .333 hitter against Fried, with an OPS of 1.178.
