The Toronto Blue Jays hit the road in a pivotal stretch of the playoff race to face Hunter Greene and the Cincinnati Reds this afternoon.

They'll get some much-needed offensive reinforcements with Daulton Varsho ready to roll, and he factors into my Blue Jays predictions right away.

Read on for my MLB picks on Monday, September 1.

Blue Jays predictions for September 1

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Varsho-time is back

Daulton Varsho Over 1.0 total bases (-110 at BetVictor)

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho is back in the lineup after a hit by pitch cost him the last couple of games. He'll step in against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene at hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark today.

Greene is an ace, but lefties have compiled a .421 slugging percentage against him this season, giving Varsho a fantastic opportunity to do damage. Of his 37 hits in 2025, 25 have been for extra bases.

Varsho is a bit of an all-or-nothing bat, but he doesn't generally have to do much to clear this number. While he's not a qualified hitter due to missed time, he'd be among the league's elite in barrel rate, bat speed, and expected slugging percentage if his numbers were extrapolated across an entire season.

While Greene has been stingy, he's been a bit homer-prone, surrendering 12 long balls in 77 innings.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Daulton Varsho Over 1.5 total bases

George Springer Over 0.5 runs

Hunter Greene Under 5.5 strikeouts

In addition to Varsho's total bases, I like George Springer to score one of the Jays' runs. He's an elite leadoff hitter who is boasting the second-best OPS of his career in his age-35 season.

He gets on base and, with the various weapons behind him, can cross the plate fairly easily — especially with the extra opportunities at the top of the order.

Greene is a renowned strikeout artist, but no team limits Ks as much as Toronto. That ability to make consistent contact against even elite arms will frustrate Greene.

While he picked up 12 strikeouts against the Angels two starts ago, the Blue Jays own baseball's best strikeout rate at 17.5%.
