Rutgers is looking to bounce back after an embarrassing Week 1 loss to UMass as a nearly 30-point favorite. Now, the Scarlet Knights head to Boston as 3.5-point underdogs against a Boston College team that also opened the season with a loss. The Eagles were 7.5-point underdogs against Cincinnati and struggled on both sides of the ball, turning the ball over and allowing more than 250 rushing yards. Rutgers has plenty of returning talent, including along the offensive line and at running back, where Antwan Raymond rushed for more than 1,200 yards last season. Week 1 was rock bottom. Rutgers has the opportunity to start climbing out Friday night.

I make Army a five-point favorite. South Florida had a very misleading Week 1 result where they were outgained by 173 yards but won the game by 10 thanks to some turnover luck. Army ran for an inane 569 yards in its Week 1 win, a 59-3 victory over the Bryant Bulldogs. This is a program that loves to run the football and I think they'll run right over South Florida on Saturday.

It was the smoothest of sailings in Matt Campbell's first game on the Penn State sideline, and Saturday's affair against Temple provides another opportunity to see what he has. Temple ran for more than 200 yards and only threw the ball 16 times for 142 yards in its 38-14 win over FCS Rhode Island, but Penn State held Marshall to just 1.7 yards per carry on 26 tries. I suspect another beatdown in favor of the Nittany Lions.

Oklahoma State must devote coverage to Oregon’s perimeter weapons and rushing attack, creating openings for Johnson in the seams and near the goal line. His 6-foot-5 frame gives Dante Moore a natural red-zone target. Oregon is favored by 22.5 points after Moore threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns in the opener, giving the Ducks enough scoring opportunities for Johnson to remain involved. I like this all the way to 55%.

I think Oklahoma State can move the football even after scoring just 10 points last week in a game where they had well over 300 yards. Expect a fast tempo as both teams were well above average when it came to plays per minute last week. I thought Oregon should've won by more last week in a game where they had almost 500 yards. I think both offenses will be more efficient in this one.

Brent Venables described him as “a model of consistency and a low-maintenance dude,” a useful endorsement for a player OU can trust in short-yardage situations. The Sooners should target Michigan’s interior with Avant’s downhill running while using John Mateer’s mobility to widen the defense. This is a rare instance where I'll say that the underdog is live. No one will go crazy about App State beating Maine last week, but let's give them some credit for winning by 52 as a 21-point favorite. Based on my projected pace for this game, I feel stronger about the first-half Under than the full-game one. However, there's enough explosiveness on the field, especially with Alabama, that these offenses could eventually erupt. Plus, DeBoer and Stein are offensive-minded coaches. 

Regardless, the Crimson Tide have gone Under their team total in five of the school's last six away games, and the squad's early-down EPA/play was in the 91st percentile of college football last week, per GameOnPaper.com.

Give me the Under 49.5 (down to 47.5) in a matchup featuring two first-year starting quarterbacks and plenty of incentive to pound the rock. Kentucky ranks 112th nationally in returning offensive production, while Alabama sits 119th, per ESPN's Bill Connelly.

This gives me less confidence that either offense will consistently move the ball against SEC competition. Alabama is also 6-12 Over/Under in SEC games during the DeBoer era, while Connelly's projected score has the Crimson Tide winning 28-19.

Arizona should be able to put points on the board thanks to its experience on offense. Quarterback Noah Fifita has been with the program since 2022, while Tre Spivey, Chris Hunter and Giovanni Richardson each bring more than two years of experience. That familiarity should help the Wildcats navigate a tough road matchup. BYU also enters the season with former special teams coach Kelly Poppinga taking over as defensive coordinator, making this his first true test in the role. UNLV has already covered plenty of ground to open the season, traveling to Hawaii last week before returning to the mainland for a matchup with North Texas. That travel could create a difficult spot for the Rebels, especially against a Mean Green team that showed plenty of fight against reigning national champion Indiana. Despite losing star quarterback Drew Mestemaker to Oklahoma State and undergoing a significant roster overhaul, North Texas still outgained the Hoosiers and averaged 5.5 yards per play in a 52-16 loss. He scored two rushing touchdowns in the opener, but this pick should not be treated as a Furman-driven overreaction. Brandon’s five-star profile and mobility were part of his evaluation long before that game. Georgia Tech held Colorado to 14 points but allowed 183 rushing yards, and now faces an offense that can stretch the field before attacking the interior with Brandon on designed keepers and scrambles. Tennessee’s receivers should draw coverage outside, opening room for Brandon near the goal line.

Justice Haynes averaged 122.4 yards on the ground last year. He handled 19 of his team's 25 carries in the opener and is in for MONSTER volume this season, especially with a green Alberto Mendoza at quarterback starting the first games of his career. We're laying some juice here but my numbers still see value. All the way up to 70% and I can't pass up an edge like that.

He opened with 113 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns against Clemson, tying Dilin Jones as the Tigers’ leading rusher while LSU generated a school-record 38 first downs. Louisiana Tech’s 80-point opener came against Northwestern State, so this is a major step up in competition for the Bulldogs’ defense. That will show up in the massive difference in quality in the trenches and especially the redzone, where Leavitt’s mobility gives LSU an extra blocker and forces defenders to honor the quarterback keep. LSU’s offensive line also was incredible in the opener. Once the Tigers build a lead, Leavitt’s designed carries should come early, before a potential fourth-quarter exit.

When they do throw the ball, the Iowa Hawkeyes aren't going to push the ball downfield, and that makes a veteran tight end like Addison Ostrenga a valuable target for Hank Brown or whoever emerges as Iowa's starting quarterback. The Iowa Hawkeyes look ferocious on defense yet again in 2026, but if teams have any chance against them, it's on the ground. Jaylen Raynor spend three years as a starting quarterback for the Arkansas State Red Wolves, operating primarily in the pocket but offering enough of a dual-threat to keep opponents honest. The Iowa State Cyclones may struggle to score on Saturday, but Raynor gives them their best shot, and I like him at up to 35%.

Chris Henry gives Ohio State a useful red-zone matchup against Texas. 

The freshman scored on his only catch in the opener, and his 6-foot-6 frame gives Julian Sayin a large target when the field compresses. Texas will have to shade coverage toward Jeremiah Smith while accounting for Ohio State’s run game, creating opportunities for Henry on isolated boundary routes, curls and back-shoulder throws near the goal line. Devin McCuin established himself as a key part of the receiving rotation in Week 1, but Ohio State’s multiple-receiver formations should continue to create favorable matchups for its younger options. Henry’s physicality and ability to win above the rim give him a clear path to a touchdown if Texas prioritizes stopping Smith.

Texas can target Ohio State’s aggressive defensive front with designed quarterback keepers, scrambles and movement throws that pull edge defenders away from their lanes. Obviously this gets more pronounced in high-leverage situations near the goalline, where Manning’s mobility gives the offense an additional gap for the Buckeyes to defend. Manning threw four touchdown passes in the opener, showing the scoring upside of this Texas offense, but his rushing path is the reason to consider him here. Ohio State’s pressure and pursuit can create openings if Manning escapes contain.

At 41%, his dual-threat profile diversifies the Texas touchdown card.

This is the situational spot of the year to fade Ole Miss who just played on Sunday night in a game where they won on a field goal on the final play of the game. They have Lane Kiffin and LSU on deck next week which will be the biggest home game in the history of Ole Miss football. The proper motivation and rest isn't there to cover 47.5 points. It also helps that my power ratings like the play.

My power ratings make Charlotte a 44.5-point underdog here, and that does not account for the situation spot. Mississippi could be in one of the worst spots of the entire college football season. The Rebels just played a Sunday night thriller against Louisville that came down to the final play, and now they have one fewer day of rest before their next game. Oh, by the way, the Rebels have arguably the biggest home game in school history on deck as they host LSU and former head coach Lane Kiffin next Saturday night. While Charlotte lost outright to FCS The Citadel last week, the market tends to overreact to upset losses to FCS schools more than it does upsets to bad FBS schools. When you factor in my ratings discrepancy and the spot, Charlotte is a best bet.

Utah scored 66 in Week 1, but the Utes did it while rushing for 364 yards and controlling possession for more than 34 minutes. Arkansas managed only 148 rushing yards on 49 carries against North Alabama and committed three turnovers. The Utah Utes annihilated the Idaho defense last weekend, scoring nine touchdowns against the Vandals. While things won't be quite that easy against the Arkansas Razorbacks, they did allow 31+ points in nine of their last 10 games last season, so they've had a hard time keeping opponents from hitting the end zone. I like Utah's team props at Over 3.5 and Over 4.5 touchdowns.

Nevada deserves respect after rushing for 323 yards in its 49-14 opener, but Montana State isn't a typical FCS visitor. The defending national champions have won 16 straight, scored 105 points through two games, and Justin Lamson has four touchdowns without an interception. Getting more than a field goal with that experience and continuity is enough for me to back the Bobcats.

Hawaii can't run or shoot offensively. The offensive line (127th in PFF's pass-blocking grade) and receiving unit (126th in receiving grade) are both a mess, which has led to quarterback Micah Alejado completing just 52.2% of his passes for 4.9 yards per attempt. I can't consider an Over with this team until things turn around, especially not unless I get a lower number. The market hasn't adjusted enough yet.

As human beings, we're bound to be biased with our picks and potentially fall into the trap of swinging with the public. With advanced stats growing in popularity and getting harder to track, college football computer predictions are starting to become more relied on.

Moneyline

Betting on a moneyline simply means you're picking the outright winner of the game, regardless of the scoring margin or total. If the team you choose wins, then your bet hits. Here's what it will look like over at your favorite sportsbook:

In this case, Alabama is favored to win the game as its moneyline odds have a minus sign (-) in front of the number. The favorites will have the minus sign present, and the underdogs will have a plus sign (+). Easy, right?

Spread

Betting the spread gives your bet a bit more breathing room. Here, you don't need to sweat out a team to win. Instead, you can wager on the point differential on the scoreboard.

Betting on the spread is a good idea when the moneyline profits aren't enticing. There's no point betting on Alabama as a heavy -1500 favorite over Missouri. But taking Missouri to keep the scoring margin within a certain frame will get you more bang for your buck.

In this example, the Tide are favored to dominate their game against Missouri, outperforming them by at least 24.5 points.

If Alabama does win by more than 25 points, that would mean the Crimson Tide covered the spread. But if the Tide won by just 20 points, then that would mean the Tigers "covered the spread" instead.

Totals

If you think the outcome of a game could flip in either direction, then an Over/Under is the way to go. This bet relies on the combined score from both teams and whether it goes Over or Under the point total listed at sportsbooks. Then, who cares who wins?

In this example, oddsmakers have set the total score for the game at 52.5 points. The choice is now up to you. If you think the Tide and Tigers will score a combined total of more than 52.5 points, 53 points or more, then pick the Over. If the set number was a whole number like 52 points and the two teams score exactly that amount, then it is considered a push and you'd get your money back.
