With limited evidence of a talent gap, Missouri -5.5 looks like a steep price. Both teams scored 50-plus points in their openers, which could create plenty of Over interest with the total sitting at 50.5. Add a nationally televised FOX matchup to the equation, and the public could be enticed to chase the recent offensive production. First, Missouri has only hit the first-half moneyline in four of its last 10 games. Second, Kansas has cashed its first-half moneyline in two of the past four games.
Oregon will pour it on early and often and Oklahoma State's offense will have a bounce-back effort, relatively speaking, after last week's clunker.
Arizona State has the firepower to at least challenge an A-list SEC school. After starting the year 11-0 in 2025, the Aggies were stopped by the Texas Longhorns to put an end to their winning streak, before getting held to their lowest point total of the year in a 10-3 loss to Miami in Round 1 of the College Football Playoff. The Sun Devils will be the first legit level-up opponent since then.
I'm counting on both playing smash-mouth football, which makes it tougher for Oklahoma to win by margin and the Over to cash.
I'm hoping the Wildcats slows down the tempo and uses their offense to play keep away from the Crimson Tide. By reducing the possessions, Kentucky gives itself a better chance of pulling off an upset and gives me a better chance of hitting this combo.
My three picks above are all correlated, which makes for a good combo. The game story is simple: Rice runs the ball with a little success early to hold the Irish to a slow start.
Notre Dame ultimately takes control, but it happy to play a game where the clock keeps running on short rest. That leads to limited scoring and a comfortable Under.
I like combining these picks as long as we can get a 3.5x payout or better.
Georgia Tech is the side I'd expect to cover at anything over 10.5 because the Yellowjackets should be able to stay competitive at home.
Tennessee’s defense allowed 28.8 points per game last season, and Alberto Mendoza’s passing ability gives the Yellow Jackets a way to exploit the Volunteers’ secondary.
The Vols offensive efficiency makes them the more likely team to clear this first half line of 17.5 points with ease, while Georgia Tech’s defensive issues create a path to a higher-scoring game.
We should see plenty of offense with a more talented team showing exactly that in winning time.
Iowa has one of its best playmaking corps in years, with the trio of Kamari Moulton, Tony Diaz, and DJ Vonnahme. Against an Iowa State defense starting seven first-year transfers from the G6/FCS/JUCO level, the Hawkeyes All-American offensive line can set the tone and set up Moulton to find the end zone. Diaz and Vonnahme should see plenty of work, too, after combining for 11 receptions for 126 yards last week.
The Cy-Hawk series tends to lack offense, and that should be especially true this year because of Iowa State. In Week 1 against a bad FCS team, the Cyclones had just 303 total yards. Against an Iowa defense ranked 11th by SP+, Iowa State will struggle to put up more than 13 points. An ugly first half should give way to Iowa's ground attack owning the second half.
This will be one of the highest tempos of any matchup in Week 2. Both offenses operate with a hurry, and that should lead to points even if efficiency isn't at an all-time high.
This year's Ohio State vs. Texas game will be a lot higher scoring with Julian Sayin and Arch Manning being far better players now than they were this time last year. Both these offenses are ranked Top 5 by SP+ and should pressure secondaries dealing with new starters. Jeremiah Smith has gone for 85+ receiving yards in six of his last eight games; Manning has thrown 18 TDs in his last seven games; and Hollywood Smothers is one of the best big-play backs in the country.
With both Julian Sayin and Arch Manning being far better QBs this time around than last year, Texas and Ohio State has shootout potential. Both offenses are ranked Top 5 by SP+ and have two potential Top 10 picks at wide receiver, Jeremiah Smith and Cam Coleman. Meanwhile, both defenses are dealing with change (roster turnover for Ohio State, coordinator change for Texas). The Longhorns win at home 27-24.
Based on the massive gulf in offensive talent in this game, I don't think Utah will be held to within two touchdowns at home. The Utes' offense should make its presence known early and often, just as they did against Idaho. That expectation has me backing the Utes to cover a first-half spread of 6.5 points, on their way to easily covering the full game spread as well.
Hawaii has scored just one touchdown in the first half this season, and another slugglish start could be in store against a much-improved New Mexico State squad that has performed better on both sides of the ball.
