Newcastle vs PSG best odds

Newcastle vs PSG picks and predictions

Amongst a large slate of Champions League games on Wednesday it’s got to be Newcastle vs. PSG that stands at the top. It’s a huge clash, both in terms of deciding the outcome of Group F and in terms of modern soccer. This year saw Newcastle return to the Champions League for the first time in a generation but this time they looked different, built with money from the new Saudi Arabian ownership and they face a PSG team who have been constructed by Qatari money. In many ways, this is a Middle Eastern derby but one contested by two well-supported and famous teams.

Group F, this year’s “group of death” is finely poised after one matchday. PSG sit at the top, with Dortmund, who they beat 2-0 at the bottom, and sandwiched between them are Milan and Newcastle who shared the spoils when they met two weeks ago. Now PSG faces their first away trip of the campaign to St James’ Park, one of England’s most famous and loved stadiums. There isn’t much you can guarantee in this sport but one thing that is for certain is that the atmosphere will be lively. Champions League-starved Geordies will be giving it their all for the players on Wednesday, no matter the score.

However, the score does matter to us as neutrals, and our best bet for Newcastle vs. PSG focuses on a goalscorer. We will be backing PSG’s French superstar Kylian Mbappe to find the back of the net at St James’ Park.

Lionel Messi will almost certainly win the Ballon d’Or later this month but Mbappe is the best player on the planet and in truth, he has been for a couple of years. It looked for a long time this summer like we wouldn’t see Mbappe in the blue of Paris Saint-Germain again but a move never materialized. The club made the smart choice and got him back in from the cold and into the first team set-up where he’s been simply exceptional.

We know Mbappe’s strengths by now. The blistering pace, the dangerous dribbling, the smart movement, and lethal finishing. Bar a love of tracking back to help defend, he has it all and is the perfect modern player. He’ll start, as he always does, on the left of the front three and drift in to attack the goal, something that has been just as lethal as usual this season.

He’s scored seven goals in six Ligue 1 games this campaign, bagged a goal in PSG’s first game in Group F, and scored five in a single game in the Coupe de France. He’s absolutely lethal and gets in dangerous positions so easily that he can afford plenty of shots per game. He’s averaged 4.3 shots per game in Ligue 1 this season and had five in that win over Dortmund.

Kieran Trippier is a fantastic RB but he’ll have a hard time against Mbappe, especially with Sandro Tonali likely in midfield on his side, a player who won’t be able to compete with the electric pace of Mbappe.

One thing we’ve seen throughout Mbappe’s career is that he comes big when his team needs him, as evidenced by his hat-trick in the World Cup final. He’s a player for the biggest occasion and I’m expecting him to cause Newcastle serious problems, and score, even in the hostile atmosphere of St James’ Park.

Newcastle vs PSG same-game parlay

Kylian Mbappe anytime goalscorer

Both teams to score - Yes

Both teams to receive a card

We have a +210 Same-Game Parlay to enjoy for Newcastle vs PSG and it’s one that really feels like it has every chance of winning.

First, we’re backing Kylian Mbappe to score. As always we back the Bet Bet in the article and for the reasons above I’m confident that we’ll see the 24-year-old add another goal to his collection. He’s the integral piece in a very good PSG side and with his incredible pace and eye for goal it’s hard to see him being totally marked out of the game, and we know that when Mbappe gets chances he often finds the back of the net.

It won’t just be Mbappe scoring and I think we’re going to see the home side score too. I’m not sure who’s going to win the game but both teams really should score. PSG have given up six goals in seven Ligue 1 games, a poor record given some of the defenders in their squad but they play in a manner that leaves them open and Newcastle have the tools to be able to put pressure on the back four and score.

Then to wrap up the Newcastle vs. PSG SGP we’ll be backing both teams to pick up a card. The atmosphere will be fierce and this pressure cooker environment will see tensions get raised. Some players on both teams have a history of rash challenges and I can easily see this game getting quite nasty at points.

Newcastle vs PSG side and Over/Under analysis

I’m going to get this out of the way straight away, I can’t pick a winner here, and it seems like the bookies can’t either, with Newcastle at +160, PSG at +150, and the draw at +265. We’ve seen some strong performances from Newcastle under Eddie Howe and even if they’ve generally underwhelmed this season they have started to look better in recent weeks. They’ve thumped Sheffield United in the league, beat Man City in the Carabao Cup, and come into this after a strong 2-0 home win over Burnley. Given PSG’s mixed start to the season, winning just three of seven games, I could see Newcastle getting something from this game and I’d probably lean to a score draw.

The bookies are expecting goals too, with Over 2.5 goals at -154 and the Under coming in at +125. I think we’re almost certain to see at least two goals, with both teams scoring, but I can’t quite bring myself to back Over 2.5 goals. This feels like one of those games that could go either way, so I’d recommend staying away from that.
