Sunday sees two teams hoping to continue their progress up the table following rough starts, as Manchester United welcome West Ham United to Old Trafford for a Premier League showdown.

The Red Devils will hope to see the weekend end with them residing inside the Top 4, while West Ham hope to continue their charge towards competing for a European spot again this season.

Man United will be dealing with a key injury in their back line, and West Ham will look to exploit that vulnerability while dealing with a leaky defense of their own.

Find out why that leads to a nice EPL betting opportunity in our Manchester United vs. West Ham United picks and predictions for Sunday, October 30.

Manchester United vs West Ham picks and predictions

Manchester United continue to improve under new manager Erik ten Hag, as their 1-1 draw at Chelsea last weekend saw them continue their strong run of form. The Red Devils have lost just once in the Premier League over a nine-match span, their 6-3 defeat to Manchester City.

Much of their recent success can be attributed to the benching of Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire. The press has been much more effective without the legendary striker on the pitch, with Marcus Rashford playing well. Bruno Fernandes has created the most chances over the past four matches of any Premier League player, and United have scored eleven goals over the last six outings.

At the other end of the pitch, the partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in defense has seen them register four clean sheets in the last eight matches in the league. However, the match at Chelsea came at a cost. Varane went down awkwardly and walked off the pitch in tears, as he suffered a leg injury that could cost him his spot on the plane to Qatar with France. Now United must look to Maguire or, more likely, Victor Lindelof to fill the gap.

Whoever replaces Varane will have their hands full this weekend against Gianluca Scamacca. The towering Italian striker has settled in at West Ham following a rough start to the season. He has scored four goals in all competitions, albeit none in his last five appearances, but is regularly starting for David Moyes.

After starting the season with five losses in their first seven Premier League fixtures, the Hammers have rebounded well with three wins and a draw over the last five. Their sole defeat was at Liverpool, the only match in that spell where they’ve been held without a goal, and that could’ve been a draw if not for Alisson denying Jarrod Bowen from the spot. Last time out, they claimed a 2-0 win over Bournemouth that saw them score a goal in stoppage time of both halves.

West Ham have scored just once in their last four visits to Old Trafford since 2021, but that goal came in a 1-0 win in the EFL Cup last September. Scamacca’s movement and size will cause Lindelof and the small yet aggressive Martinez some issues, especially if they continue to concede free kicks in dangerous areas.

Meanwhile, West Ham’s back line will have its hands full with Fernandes and the Man United press, as they look to hit on the break.

At the end of the day, it’s more likely than not that both teams will be on the scoresheet which is why both teams to score is your best bet for Sunday.

My best bet: Both teams to score (-125 at bet365)

Manchester United vs West Ham side analysis

Manchester United have claimed victory in three of their last four Premier League matches at home, with a 0-0 draw with Newcastle being the only blemish. They’ve recorded five wins and two draws in their last seven matches in all competitions, including a win over Spurs. They’ve also lost just once in their last 14 home Premier League matches.

West Ham have won eight of their last 11 matches in all competitions, including each of the last two. However, they’ve been poor away from home in the Premier League this campaign. In six trips away from the London Stadium, they’ve lost four times and claimed just a sole victory. Two of those defeats have come against the big six.

Manchester United are heavily favored on the three-way line, with West Ham paying more than +400 for an away victory. That’s not only due to the form of the two teams, but also the fact that West Ham’s win last season was the only one in their last 19 visits to Old Trafford.

Manchester United vs West Ham Over/Under analysis

Manchester United’s last three Premier League matches have seen fewer than three goals scored, including two matches at home. Both teams have scored in three of their five home tilts, as well as in six of their 11 in the league this season.

West Ham have seen just one of their six away matches in the league go over two goals, and just one of their last six in total in the league have found a third goal. Both teams have scored in just four of West Ham’s 12 matches this season, in part due to the Hammers having been held scoreless in five of those matches. West Ham have scored just three goals away from home this season.

The last five meetings between these two sides in all competitions at Old Trafford have seen fewer than three goals scored. That includes each of the last three Premier League home matches for Man United against West Ham.
