Expert MLS moneyline picks
Inter Miami vs. Charlotte FC pick: Inter Miami
I'm picking Miami to win, although this is a no-play at anything north of 62%. Charlotte FC will be without multiple starters — including the suspended Allan Saint-Maximin — and have just one point in their last three away matches. The Herons need a win to ensure a second-place finish in the Eastern Conference, and they are unbeaten in their last eight home games.
Orlando City vs. New England Revolution pick: Draw
Orlando City are on a six-match unbeaten run at home with five wins, but they have serious problems in central defense due to Robin Jansson's injury and Iago Teodoro's suspension. That will cost them the victory against a New England side that has won six of its last eight on the road and will want to get at least a point to ensure a top-three finish.
FC Cincinnati vs. Nashville SC pick: Draw
FC Cincinnati want a win to avoid the wild-card match. However, they will be without multiple backline starters. Nashville SC must balance keeping everyone healthy with pushing for the all-time MLS points record. All they need to set that milestone is a draw, and that's the result I expect at the final whistle.
Philadelphia Union vs. Toronto FC pick: Philadelphia
Another no-play north of 60%. Philadelphia Union will be desperate to end their four-match winless run. Cavan Sullivan should be back in the starting XI and will cause problems for a Toronto side missing numerous key players, including Walker Zimmerman and Alonso Coello. Toronto FC have nothing left to play for but pride, while the Union need a victory to stay ahead of Cincinnati for sixth.
Chicago Fire vs. Columbus Crew pick: Columbus Crew
The Chicago Fire are ending the season on a solid run of form, claiming seven points from their last nine matches. That said, I can't pick against the Columbus Crew right now. They're not only red hot — winning five straight and seven of eight — but they've kept a clean sheet in three of their last four outings.
New York Red Bulls vs. Atlanta United pick: NYRB
If I could pick both teams to lose, I would. That said, history has shown the New York Red Bulls dominate Atlanta United in the Big Apple, with the Five Stripes failing to score in seven of their last nine visits. The Red Bulls have looked much more coherent down the stretch, and I'll back them to maintain their dominance.
CF Montreal vs. Vancouver Whitecaps pick: Draw
There's serious value on the draw here. The Vancouver Whitecaps have nothing to play for as they've clinched the top spot in the West, while CF Montreal already beat a strong Vancouver side at home in September, with a 2-1 win in the Canadian Championship. I'm definitely not picking them to win for the first time in eight matches, but the draw should be trading closer to 26%.
DC United vs. New York City FC pick: NYCFC
DC United are likely without Tai Baribo, a key reason they've scored just one goal in their last three matches. They've been outscored 13-3 in their five-match losing skid, and offer New York City FC a clear opportunity to win. They come in with a four-match unbeaten run and are simply the more reliable side.
Seattle Sounders vs. LAFC pick: Draw
Don't mind me, I'm just scratching my head furiously at how the Seattle Sounders are being traded at 52%, having taken just two points from their last five outings and coming off a 5-1 beatdown vs. Vancouver. LAFC are winless in their last seven away games, but they were on a five-match unbeaten run before last weekend's loss to Minnesota. I understand the Sounders need a win to get in, but I don't see them doing so. I'll take the value on the draw.
Real Salt Lake vs. L.A. Galaxy pick: Draw
It's win-or-go-home for Real Salt Lake, who will need some help to sneak into the playoffs. The Galaxy can keep their spot with a draw, but they'll be desperate to avoid a defeat that could leave them watching the playoffs from home. The Galaxy have lost just once in their last nine matches, and I like them to hold on for a critical point as they defend for their lives.
Austin FC vs. Portland Timbers pick: Portland
The Portland Timbers must win to ensure a playoff spot, as a draw could see them overtaken in the standings. Austin FC have lost five of six, with a lone win over lowly Sporting KC, and have lost each of their last three at home. Don't overthink this one.
San Diego FC vs. Sporting Kansas City pick: San Diego FC
I would not play this match unless you get San Diego FC trading south of 62%. That said, the home side picked up a win last week to end a 10-match winless run, after five draws in seven games. Sporting have lost five of seven, and have just nine points from 16 away matches.
Houston Dynamo vs. St. Louis CITY SC pick: Draw
St. Louis City have fallen apart down the stretch, losing four straight while being outscored 10-4. A loss to Houston would see the teams flip table positions, giving the Dynamo homefield in the first round. Thankfully for the visitors, the Dynamo have only one win in their last nine matches, drawing five times in that span. We'll see another draw here.
Minnesota United vs. San Jose Earthquakes pick: Minnesota United
Somehow, Minnesota United still have a shot at a playoff spot, but they'll need to win their fourth in five and get help elsewhere. I'll back the Loons against a San Jose side that is comfortably in the playoffs but has won just once in its last six matches and has lost each of the last five league meetings with Minnesota.
FC Dallas vs. Colorado Rapids pick: Dallas
I'll back the home side south of 50%. The Rapids are awful away from home this season, with 10 points from 16 matches, while FC Dallas have won three of their last four at home. They also need to ensure they finish second in the West, and they'll do so against a depleted Colorado squad.
