Darren Raddysh sits third among NHL defensemen in shot attempts, and he'll get plenty of opportunities to fire away against the Nashville Predators.

Darren Raddysh was brought in to provide the Toronto Maple Leafs (59%) with a shooting threat from the point. He's done just that, ranking third among all defensemen in shot attempts, and Raddysh features prominently in my Predators vs. Maple Leafs predictions.

My NHL picks are banking on another productive shooting performance from Raddysh against Nashville. Let's take a closer look ahead of this clash on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Predators vs Maple Leafs prediction: Over 5.5

I see value on the Over to 57%.

The Toronto Maple Leafs rank seventh in high-danger chance generation but haven’t been scoring many goals due to a 7.3% finishing rate. That's low for any team, let alone one with the high-end talent the Maple Leafs possess.

The Nashville Predators don’t boast the same kind of firepower, and they’ve scored just three goals through two games and are shooting only 6.5%. But this isn’t a bad spot for the tide to turn.

Sergei Bobrovsky (-12.2 Goals Saved Above Expected) and Juuse Saros (-9.3 GSAx) are both coming off down years, and it takes more than a couple of games to be confident in a rebound.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Only five teams have allowed more shots per game to defensemen than the Predators, which sets up for a high-volume performance from Raddysh.

Predators vs Maple Leafs combo

I’m combining the Over with Auston Matthews to score and Kirill Marchenko to assist.

Nobody on the Maple Leafs has been generating more chances than Matthews, and there’s no denying he’s the most natural scorer on the roster.

Marchenko is attached to the hip of Matthews at 5-on-5 and on the power play, providing heavy correlation between the two.

Marchenko has picked up 40-plus assists in back-to-back seasons despite not playing with a forward of Matthews’ caliber.

If this contest goes Over, there’s a good chance these two stars link up along the way.

Predators vs Maple Leafs combo

  • Over 5.5
  • Auston Matthews anytime goal
  • Kirill Marchenko Over 0.5 assists

 TOP PICK
Predators vs Maple Leafs player prop: Darren Raddysh Over 2.5 shots

I’m on Darren Raddysh for 3+ shots on goal up to 56%.

Raddysh is tied with William Nylander for first on the Maple Leafs with 21 shot attempts through three games.

That volume is consistent, too. He attempted at least six shots in each contest despite facing two playoff teams from a year ago, including a Pete DeBoer-led squad, and he's one of the league’s better bench bosses.

The Predators have allowed shot attempts at the seventh-highest rate at 5-on-5, and shots on goal at the highest rate while killing penalties.

Raddysh’s one-timer is a focal point on the power play, so this is a great spot for him to tee off.

Predators vs Maple Leafs goal scorer: Auston Matthews

I recommend Matthews to score up to 46%.

He leads the Maple Leafs in shots on target, scoring chances, and expected goals through three games.

Matthews has been looking dangerous alongside Marchenko and Jack Roslovic, who’ve done a great job helping to tilt the ice and spend time in the offensive zone.

Of 79 forward lines that have spent 15+ minutes together, the Matthews line ranks fifth in expected goals share at 5-on-5.

The trio has been attacking a lot, and it generally doesn’t take Matthews many opportunities to find the back of the net.
