Nathan MacKinnon leads all players in shots on goal at home this season, and my top Predators vs. Avalanche prediction and NHL picks for Thursday, Nov. 5, back him to take full advantage.
He and the Colorado Avalanche (66%) have a nice matchup to pile up the shots against the league's 24th-ranked shot suppression team.
Predators vs Avalanche prediction: Predators +1.5
I'm backing the Nashville Predators on the puck line to 60%.
The Predators aren't sexy, but they play competitive hockey at 5-on-5 and have elite special teams, cracking the top five in both power-play and penalty-kill percentage.
They have also gotten really good goaltending, sitting fourth in team save percentage. That makes it very difficult for opponents to pull away from them, and the proof is in the pudding.
Nashville owns a respectable 6-4-5 record, and only three of its nine losses came by multiple goals. Look for them to hang tough with the Colorado Avalanche.

Predators vs Avalanche combo
I'm expecting the Predators to keep this close and give the Avalanche a competitive game, which sets up a scenario where both teams ride their big guns.
Filip Forsberg averages 7.1 shot attempts per game following one day of rest, and recorded three shots on nine attempts against Colorado just over a week ago.
Nathan MacKinnon is generating 5.6 shots on goal per game in Colorado this season and has averaged a healthy 5.1 shots over the last 14 head-to-head matchups with Nashville.
Predators vs Avalanche combo
- Predators +1.5
- Filip Forsberg Over 2.5 shots
- Nathan MacKinnon Over 3.5 shots
TOP PICK
Predators vs Avalanche player prop: Nathan MacKinnon Over 3.5 shots
I'd target MacKinnon for 4+ shots up to 59%.
MacKinnon is a shooting machine at all times, but his volume on home soil is flat-out absurd. He is averaging 5.6 shots on 8.4 attempts in Colorado and has cleared this line in seven of eight.
The exception came against the Devils, who rank fourth in shot suppression, giving up just 24.5 shots per game.
The Predators are 24th in shots allowed and gave up 37 shots on goal in their only away game against a top-10 offense.
MacKinnon has faced only two bottom-10 shot suppression teams in Colorado thus far. He combined for 13 shots in those games while going Over in both.
Predators vs Avalanche goal scorer: Filip Forsberg
I'd play Forsberg for a goal up to 36%.
He is tied for 20th in the NHL with 96 shot attempts. Excluding Timo Meier, every other player in the Top 20 has scored more times than Forsberg (five).
The Predators and Avalanche both rank in the top five in shots-on-goal pace over the last 10 games, and the total sits at 6.5. There should be a high-event environment for a sniper like Forsberg to thrive.
