Cole Perfetti is averaging 10 shot attempts per game through three matchups with bottom-10 shot suppression teams, and the Canucks sit dead last.

The Vancouver Canucks are the league's worst shot-suppression team, and my Canucks vs. Jets prediction sees Cole Perfetti taking full advantage for the heavily favored Winnipeg Jets (66%).

Perfetti has seen a big spike in usage this season and responded with an additional 1.1 shots on goal per game. Let's take a closer look at my NHL picks for Thursday, Nov. 5.

Canucks vs Jets prediction: Over 6.5

I'm on the Over to 53%.

Neither of these teams has defended well this season, and we're not seeing any sort of improvement.

The Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets both rank in the bottom five in goals against and expected goals against per 60 over the last 10 games.

There's enough juice on each side to take advantage. Vancouver is averaging more than three goals per game and quietly sits third in finishing rate.

Winnipeg has real star power at the top of its lineup, and the Jets have averaged 38.3 shots over three games against bottom-10 defenses.

Canucks vs Jets combo

Neither team can stop a nosebleed, so I'm expecting real fireworks offensively. Cole Perfetti and Mark Scheifele are two players I'm backing to lead the charge.

Perfetti has averaged 3.3 shots on goal over his last 10 games and gone Over his line in seven of them. Two of the exceptions came against Dallas and Florida — high-end defensive teams that give up very little volume.

Scheifele is a lethal 17.3% career finisher who has scored just two goals on 6.2 expected goals due to a 5.6% shooting percentage. That number is going to climb significantly, and Vancouver's 32nd-ranked goaltending could help the cause.

Canucks vs Jets combo

  • Over 6.5
  • Cole Perfetti Over 2.5 shots
  • Mark Scheifele anytime goal scorer

 TOP PICK
Canucks vs Jets player prop: Cole Perfetti Over 2.5 shots

I like Perfetti to go Over 2.5 shots to 55%.

Perfetti is averaging 9.83 shots on goal per 60 minutes, well above his career output of 7.61.

We've seen a big spike in efficiency, which is even more valuable with Perfetti averaging more than three extra minutes of ice time compared to a year ago.

The combination of efficiency and opportunity has resulted in an extra 1.1 shots on goal per game compared to last season. That's a huge spike, and it looks perfectly sustainable.

The shots should continue to be there in bulk against the Canucks, who rank last in shot suppression at 5-on-5 and 31st on the penalty kill.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Cole Perfetti ranks 15th among 118 eligible forwards in shot attempts per 60 minutes.

Canucks vs Jets goal scorer: Mark Scheifele

Scheifele is my top target to find the net, and I see value to 41%.

He is shooting nearly 12 percentage points below his career average out of the gate. Even if you factor in some potential regression for the 33-year-old, there's no reason to believe a dip anywhere close to that level will be sticky.

The Jets removed Perfetti from the top line and put Gabriel Vilardi there in his place, and I think that may benefit Scheifele.

Perfetti is more of a shooter, whereas Vilardi likes to create opportunities for his linemates with strong playmaking below the dots.

That change — and a mouthwatering matchup — could be what Scheifele needs to get going as a scorer.
