There was no love lost between the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers in their joint practice this week, and they’ll take that fire to the field tonight as they open their NFL preseason accounts.
The teams saw four fights break out in 10 minutes on Tuesday, and our Titans vs. 49ers predictions and NFL picks are backing Cam Ward and the favored Titans (-4.5) to get a bit of revenge when the teams meet at Levi’s Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 13.

TOP PICK
Who will win Titans vs 49ers: Titans -4.5
Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh has always taken the preseason seriously. He went 10-3 against the spread with the Jets in preseason contests — a far cry from his 20-36 mark in the games that mattered.
That’s why it’s not surprising to hear that all his starters will play tonight. He indicated, “It’s not just a series,” when asked how long they’d play.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Shanahan is the exact opposite, and given the injury issues his team continues to deal with, he stated the bulk of his starters will not play.
Given those facts, it makes sense why the Titans are favored. QB Cam Ward should get multiple series as he learns the new system ahead of a second year in the league, with the experienced Mitch Trubisky taking over at some point.
Ward looked really good against this 49ers defense in Tuesday’s scrimmage, especially in the red zone. I expect that success to continue as the Titans score enough early to win late.
Titans vs 49ers prediction: Over 39.5
Another aspect of the Titans covering the spread is Saleh needing to figure out his backup quarterback situation.
Will Levis and Hendon Hooker are listed on Tennessee’s depth chart as battling for the third QB spot, despite Hooker getting very few reps in camp. This leads me to believe we’ll see both players getting opportunities to throw the ball.
Levis will help lead to scoring — either throwing touchdowns or some terrible interception-worthy passes. He’s extremely error-prone, which could lead to the 49ers getting short fields and easy points.
On the flip side, Tennessee’s secondary is a major problem. It's been repeatedly picked on in practice and in the scrimmage against the 49ers, despite a rebuild after ranking 27th in TD% rate and 29th in yards allowed per catch.
