It's the first day of NFL preseason action with multiple games on the docket, including the Detroit Lions at the Cincinnati Bengals, the Arizona Cardinals at the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Green Bay Packers at the Pittsburgh Steelers.
However, since it's August, we won't be seeing the cream of the crop in most of these matches. And for those stars who are in action, few will play for more than a series or two before giving way to backups and depth.
Below, we'll track NFL preseason key player statuses of who are active and, more likely, inactive or limited for tonight's six-game slate on Thursday, Aug. 13.

NFL Preseason Week 1 roster notes for Thursday, Aug. 13
Lions at Bengals
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell will not have a full assortment of his usual weapons on the field tonight as starting QB Jared Goff has been ruled out and Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown likely won't see the field, either.
On the other end, the Cincinnati Bengals will give Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins, and Ja'Marr Chase at least some reps in the team's first preseason game.

Packers at Steelers
Veteran Pittsburgh Steelers players like Aaron Rodgers and T.J. Watt will remain on the sidelines tonight as local boy Mike McCarthy makes his team debut as the head coach against his former team.
Matt LaFleur is expected to give Jordan Love, Josh Jacobs, and Christian Watson some playing time before turning to the backups and reserves.

Colts at Patriots
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is not expected to play tonight, ceding time to the two-headed monster of Tommy DeVito and Behren Morton.
Mike Vrabel is expected to rest most of his starters, which means we may have to wait a while longer before we see A.J. Brown suit up for the Pats.
Daniel Jones will also not play for the Indianapolis Colts, meaning Anthony Richardson Sr. will slot in at QB to open the game.

Cardinals at Raiders
Carson Beck will not play tonight for the Arizona Cardinals due to a rib injury sustained during the Hall of Fame Game against the Carolina Panthers. He practiced through it during the week, and it's not expected to be serious, but the club will take things cautiously with their hopeful franchise QB.
Jacoby Brissett will start in his place, with Gardner Minshew II getting reps later.
On the other hand, Las Vegas Raiders rookie QB Fernando Mendoza is expected to see plenty of action in his NFL preseason debut.

Chargers at Texans
Trey Lance is set to start tonight's matchup for the Los Angeles Chargers, and it'll be interesting to see how the dual-threat quarterback fares in Mike McDaniel's new scheme.
Davis Mills will take the helm for Houston, with Graham Mertz presumably taking over in the second half.
Neither Justin Herbert nor C.J. Stroud is expected to be active tonight.

Titans at 49ers
Brock Purdy will be OUT tonight, joining a slew of key San Francisco 49ers who won't be suiting up at Levi's Stadium.
