The 2025 NFL schedule starts with a bang when the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles host the rival Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football in Week 1.
Shortly after that opening night matchup was made official, sportsbooks promptly put out NFL odds for this NFC East encounter.
The Eagles hit the board as touchdown favorites while the Over/Under total opened at 46.5 points. There are still more than 100 days before kickoff, but I’m not waiting to wager on the first TNF matchup of the season.

My pick: Philadelphia Eagles -7
The Philadelphia Eagles opened as touchdown favorites hosting the Dallas Cowboys for NFL opening night... and even as a Dallas fan, I can’t lay the points with Philadelphia fast enough.
The Eagles bring the best roster in the league into Week 1, fresh off dismantling Kansas City in the Super Bowl. Dallas, on the other hand, will be getting its first real reps under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer and a retooled staff.
Philadelphia not only has the firepower to clear this touchdown spread but this vaunted Philly pass rush — that was the key to containing Patrick Mahomes & Co. in New Orleans –—goes up against a revamped Cowboys offensive line with plenty of new pieces.
Dallas doesn’t have much of a ground game and will be dropping back a lot, with Dak Prescott pressing to CeeDee Lamb and new WR George Pickens. Philadelphia is able to get pressure without the blitz and will plug up the passing lanes of this Cowboys attack.
As for the Dallas defense, the front seven is solid and pass rusher Micah Parsons remains the standout of the stop unit but the secondary is a mess with Trevon Diggs likely missing Week 1, Jourdan Lewis leaving, and DaRon Bland missing a step.
This is going to be a rough season for the Cowboys, who have watched their season win total sink like a stone since futures hit the market. There is a sizable gap between these rivals — more than a touchdown — and it wouldn’t surprise me to see this close on the high side of the key number come September 4. I’ll bet the Eagles -7 now.
