How the 2026 World Cup bracket works

The 2026 World Cup format is different from 2022. Instead of 32 teams and a Round of 16, the expanded tournament has 48 teams split into 12 groups of four.

The top two teams from each group advance automatically. The eight best third-place teams also move on, creating a 32-team knockout bracket.

From there, it’s single elimination all the way to the Final, which takes place on Sunday, July 19, at MetLife Stadium.

How to fill out our World Cup bracket

You can fill out your bracket digitally or print it and track the tournament as it unfolds. Here’s how to approach it:

Predict each group match

Start by picking the results for every group stage game. Matches can end in a draw, so don’t force winners where they don’t exist.

Rank the teams in each group

Teams earn:

  • 3 points for a win
  • 1 point for a draw
  • 0 points for a loss

The top two teams in each group advance, along with the eight best third-place finishers.

Break ties simply

If teams finish level on points, use:

  • Head-to-head result
  • Goal differential
  • Goals scored

Build your knockout path

Place the advancing teams into the bracket and map out the rest of the tournament. From here on out, every match has a winner.
