This Saturday we get to see the Kansas City Chiefs and Arizona Cardinals face off at State Farm Stadium. This will be K.C.'s first outing since February’s Super Bowl defeat, and they’ll be looking for vengeance this season.

They come into this as 2.5-point favorites, with that line growing one point since opening. Don’t miss our Chiefs vs. Cardinals predictions and NFL picks for August 9.

Chiefs vs Cardinals prediction

Chiefs vs Cardinals Best bet: Chiefs -2.5 (-120 at bet365)

We’ve had good news that we’re set to see starters play here, which should mean a good contest. For the home team, that means we get to see Kyler Murray back in action.

We don’t know how much we’ll see of Murray and his fellow starters, with Jonathan Gannon yet to confirm specifics. It marks a stark contrast from last year in which neither Murray, nor any of the Arizona Cardinals’ studs, got preseason action.

When Murray comes out of the game, we’re going to see quarterbacking duties fall to the experienced Jacoby Brissett, as well as Clayton Tune. Brissett is more than capable as a backup and is very experienced with 53 games as a starter.

On the other sideline, we’ve had confirmation from Andy Reid that we will see Patrick Mahomes & Co., with the Kansas City Chiefs starters playing in the first quarter.

It goes without saying that with Mahomes on the field this team will be dangerous, but even once he’s removed, we should see a strong Chiefs performance.

Behind Mahomes on the depth chart are Gardner Minshew and Bailey Zappe. Minshew, like Brissett, is an established NFL vet and a very capable backup. He's got 46 starts to his name and 17 victories, which isn’t bad given the caliber of teams he’s played for.

Meanwhile, Zappe has a reasonable 4-5 record in his nine starts. As a pairing, they should be able to keep the Chiefs offense ticking, even when the starters are benched.

There have been some interesting training camp stories for the Chiefs this season with rookie Jalen Royals excelling in practice. Other more experienced names like Tyquan Thornton have also impressed at camp.

With Hollywood Brown injured and Rashee Rice returning from last year’s serious injury, there’s room for one or maybe two wideouts to make a splash, and this game gives them a real chance of doing that. Likewise, the battle for the TE2 position, as well as the RB corps, should give plenty of motivation.

Andy Reid went 0-3 last year but had a winning record in the three preseasons before that. His team has quality across the roster and although they rarely blow teams out, even in regular season form, they should have enough to cover the spread against this Cardinals team.
