Two teams looking to rebound from lopsided home losses in their Big 12 openers square off as the Utah Utes head to Morgantown to face the West Virginia Mountaineers.

But one of those defeats was far more telling than the other—and that should become clear this week. See who I’m backing in my Utah vs. West Virginia predictions and college football picks for Saturday, September 27.

Utah vs West Virginia prediction

Utah vs West Virginia best bet: Utah -12.5 (-110)

The Utah Utes were ranked 16th in the nation before getting smoked at home last weekend by Texas Tech. However, I think that was more about how good the Red Raiders are than how bad the Utes are. This Utah defense is still very good.

They held UCLA to 10 points and Wyoming to six points — both games on the road. Meanwhile, the West Virginia Mountaineers only scored 10 points in each of their games against Ohio and Kansas. Neither of those defenses is anywhere near the talent of this Utah defense.

The Mountaineers did have an impressive 31-24 win over Pitt in between those two games, but that's a heated rivalry game, and sometimes you have to throw numbers and talent out the window in those cases. The other two performances are more likely the real West Virginia.

WVU quarterback Nicco Marchiol is questionable, and three running backs may not suit up for the Mountaineers. I just don’t see how they can score enough to keep this game close, even if Utah's offensive struggles continue.

Utah vs West Virginia same-game parlay

To add to the spread, I am going to add both the game total Under and NaQuari Rogers to score a touchdown. The Utah running back has four touchdowns already this season.

  • Utah -12.5
  • Under 47.5
  • NaQuari Rogers anytime TD

Our deep-ball SGP: Wear 'Em Down

Adding Utah quarterback Devon Dampier to hit his rushing total, as they will get the run game going with both the quarterback and the running backs and wear down the Mountaineers defense.

  • Utah -12.5
  • Under 47.5
  • NaQuari Rogers anytime TD
  • Devon Dampier Over 65.5 rushing yards
