Pittsburgh puts its unbeaten record on the line today as a 3.5-point favorite against North Carolina. The Panthers have a 62% win probability.

My North Carolina vs. Pitt prediction and Week 6 college football picks call for the Panthers to wear down the Tar Heels on the ground in a game with more scoring than the market expects. For the full slate, see our Week 6 Top 25 predictions and best bets.

Kickoff is at noon ET today, Saturday, Oct. 10, at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa., on ESPN.

 TOP PICK
Who will win North Carolina vs Pitt today? Pick: Pitt -3.5

The market dropped Pitt after Mason Heintschel's season-ending injury, and that looks like an overreaction. Holden Geriner led a comeback win at Virginia Tech and is 19-of-26 with no interceptions this season.

He won't have to win this game with his arm.

North Carolina can't stop the run against good teams. Clemson ran for 186 yards at 5.2 per carry, and Notre Dame ran for 241 at 5.4, including 166 in the second half. Pitt averages 162 rushing yards per game behind an experienced line.

The Panthers are 4-0 at home, outscoring opponents 157-34, and haven't allowed a third-quarter point. North Carolina has been outscored 26-9 in fourth quarters and has dropped four straight conference games.

I'll lay it up to -4.

Covers COVERS INTEL: North Carolina is allowing 152.5 rushing yards per game, and opponents have picked up 38 first downs on the ground against the Tar Heels, more than UNC's own offense has managed (31).

North Carolina vs Pitt Over/Under pick: Over 46.5

Pittsburgh's games have gone Over this number in three of five, and the Panthers average 38.4 points per game. North Carolina's last two games produced 48 and 63 total points.

The Tar Heels can add points of their own. Pitt's pass defense just allowed 434 yards at Virginia Tech, and Billy Edwards Jr. threw three touchdown passes against Notre Dame.

Jaden Jefferson returned a kickoff 98 yards against the Irish, and Pitt allows 25.8 yards per kick return. Pitt has scored on 18 of 22 red-zone trips, including 14 touchdowns.

Play this up to 47.5.

North Carolina vs Pitt combo pick

All three legs follow the same script.

Pittsburgh leans on the run, North Carolina's defensive front wears down in the second half, and the Panthers do enough to win.

The moneyline means Pitt doesn't need to cover, so a late Tar Heels touchdown doesn't hurt. UNC keeps pace early with big plays through the air and on returns, pushing the scoreboard past 46.5.

North Carolina vs Pitt combo

  • Pittsburgh moneyline
  • Over 46.5
  • North Carolina team total Over 21.5

North Carolina vs Pittsburgh prop: Pitt TT Over 24.5

North Carolina's defense wears down as the game goes on, and Pitt will have the ball to take advantage. The Panthers hold possession 31:38 per game and convert 46% of their third downs.

Antonio Chadha is a perfect 5-for-5 on field goals and 23-for-23 on extra points, so even stalled drives turn into points. Clemson and Notre Dame scored 28 and 37 on the Tar Heels.

Pitt gets past 25.5.
