Step aside, mid-week MACtion — C-USA is bringing the chaos to the early week college football slate! The Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens welcome the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in a showdown of the blues.

It's been a rough ride for the Blue Raiders, who come in with just one win, while the Blue Hens are looking to edge closer to bowl eligibility in their inaugural FBS season.

My Middle Tennessee vs. Delaware predictions and college football picks explain why the Hens will be the cock of the Walk on Wednesday, October 22.

Middle Tennessee vs Delaware prediction

Middle Tennessee vs Delaware best bet: Delaware team total Over 32.5 (-115)

Despite back-to-back losses, the 3-3 Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens’ first foray into FBS football hasn’t gone too badly. They are led by quarterback Nick Minicucci and a defense that is one of the more underrated units in the Group of Five.

Meanwhile, it’s been a tough go for the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, with their lone win coming in a one-point victory over Nevada back on Sept. 13. And the numbers aren’t pretty. The Blue Raiders rank 122nd in EPA per play on offense and 118th in EPA per play on defense.

They’ve really been torched by opposing QBs, ranking 126th in opponent EPA per dropback and 96th in defensive success rate on dropbacks. So, slowing down an ever-improving Minicucci looks like a tough task.

Minicucci has thrown for 1,801 yards at 7.6 yards per attempt while completing 64.4% of his passes so far this season. He’s also thrown for at least 300 yards in three of his last five games.

Minicucci has helped the Blue Hens average 29 points per game over their last four, topping 38 twice in that stretch. I like them to make it three times in five games against a Middle Tennessee defense that leaks like a sieve.

Middle Tennessee vs Delaware same-game parlay

Minicucci’s favorite target this season has been Kyre Duplessis. The 5-foot-11 wideout already has 28 catches for 430 yards. However, he has only found the end zone twice this season. That changes this week.

We’ve noted how Middle Tennessee's pass defense is bad, but the team has also allowed opponents to throw 14 touchdown passes. That ranks 115th in the country.

Not to beat down on the Blue Raiders, but things just ain’t great with this team. Bad offense plus bad defense equals slow starts. Middle Tennessee ranks 105th in opponent first-half scoring, giving up an average of 17 points in the opening half.

I like Delaware to get off to a good start, so round this SGP out with the Blue Hens to cover the 6.5-point first-half spread.

  • Delaware team total Over 32.5
  • Kyre Duplessis anytime TD
  • Delaware -6.5 first half

Our deep-ball SGP: Singin' the blues

The place you should attack Delaware is through the air, and big-bodied Nahzae Cox is the Blue Raiders' best threat to score in the red zone, already grabbing four touchdowns this season.

Middle Tennessee vs Delaware game predictions

Middle Tennessee vs Delaware moneyline prediction

Delaware will come out on top in this Wednesday night C-USA showdown. The Blue Hens have been getting solid QB play from Minicucci and look like the more prepared team week in and week out, while Middle Tennessee is struggling on both sides of the ball.

Middle Tennessee vs Delaware spread prediction

My gut says Delaware covers this spread, and I like it to get off to a good start, but you can throw on the Blue Hens a little bit, and that’s where the Blue Raiders do their best work, relatively speaking. This game has backdoor cover written all over it, and that's why I prefer Delaware on the first-half spread instead.

Middle Tennessee vs Delaware Over/Under prediction

It’s a similar situation with the total. I lean toward the Under, partly because this number of 55.5 seems a tad high. But a late push from the Blue Raiders could send this game Over, so I’m staying away from the total for the most part here.

Middle Tennessee vs Delaware odds

  • Spread: Middle Tennessee +9.5 | Delaware -9.5
  • Moneyline: Middle Tennessee +270 | Delaware -395
  • Over/Under: Over 55.5 | Under 55.5
