The Texas Tech Red Raiders have a direct path to the Big 12 title game and thus the College Football Playoff.

Beating the unbeaten BYU Cougars this weekend would all but assure the Red Raiders a chance at everything they talked about this offseason amid headlines about their massive roster investments.

My BYU vs. Texas Tech predictions expect the home favorite to hand the Cougars their first loss this season, even if this double-digit spread has gotten a bit too out of hand for comfort.

Kickoff comes at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, November 8.

Our best BYU vs Texas Tech SGP for Week 11

Do not be fooled by this spread ballooning to favor Texas Tech by 10.5 points.

Although the Red Raiders lost to Arizona State a few weeks ago, BYU is not in the same tier as Texas Tech.

That was without starting quarterback Behren Morton, a choice made by Texas Tech in part because it knew it could suffer a loss and still control its own path to the College Football Playoff, thanks to having both Cincinnati and BYU on the schedule.

The Red Raiders should jump out to an early lead behind quarterback Behren Morton and running back Cameron Dickey, who has found the end zone in eight of nine games this season.

Expect BYU to try to slow this game down enough that the Under has life despite Texas Tech’s superior offense. That will be the Cougars’ best path toward an upset.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
