Expert Week 4 CFB moneyline picks
Clemson vs California: Clemson
Clemson's offense remains a work in progress, but its defense gives the Tigers a clear advantage in this matchup. Cal hasn't shown enough consistency moving the ball to make me believe it can repeatedly sustain drives against Clemson's front.
The cross-country trip and Friday night setting add some volatility, but Clemson doesn't need an offensive explosion to win. If the Tigers avoid turnovers and keep Cal behind schedule, their defensive talent should eventually take over.
Texas vs Tennessee: Texas
Tennessee should make Texas work for this one, especially in Knoxville, but the Longhorns have more ways to win. Texas can create pressure without constantly blitzing, which is important against a Tennessee offense that wants to stay ahead of the chains and play with tempo.
The Vols' banged-up backfield is another concern. I expect Tennessee to hang around, but Texas' advantage in the trenches and ability to generate explosive plays should eventually separate the Longhorns.
Ole Miss vs Florida: Florida
Ole Miss has earned its Top-5 ranking, but this is a difficult spot coming off an emotional win over LSU. Trinidad Chambliss and the Rebels can create explosive plays, but Florida has enough speed defensively to make Ole Miss earn its yards rather than living off chunk gains.
The difference for me is Gainesville.
In what should be a one-score game deep into the fourth quarter, Florida's defensive front and home-field advantage give the Gators the slightest edge.
Iowa vs Michigan: Michigan
Iowa hanging 55 points on Northern Iowa doesn't suddenly make this an explosive offense. Michigan presents an entirely different problem, particularly at the line of scrimmage. The Wolverines can make Iowa play from behind the chains and force an offense built around efficiency into obvious passing situations.
Michigan doesn't need to score 30 to control this game, either. Expect the Wolverines to lean on their running game, dominate field position, and gradually suffocate Iowa over four quarters.
Oklahoma vs Georgia: Georgia
Oklahoma's biggest problem isn't Georgia's offense — it's finding enough points to keep this competitive. The Sooners scored just 10 at Michigan, and 14 against New Mexico, and Athens represents another significant jump in defensive difficulty.
Georgia can win early downs without selling out to create pressure, forcing Oklahoma into obvious passing situations where the Bulldogs have a massive advantage. Unless Oklahoma generates turnovers or short fields, Georgia should control this game from start to finish.
Utah vs Iowa State: Utah
Iowa State should make this uncomfortable, but Utah is built to win exactly this kind of game. The Utes can control the line of scrimmage, shorten the game with their rushing attack, and rely on a defense that just held Utah State scoreless.
Iowa State's home-field advantage should prevent this from becoming a runaway, but Utah doesn't need one. The Utes are better equipped to win a physical, low-possession game where one or two fourth-quarter drives decide it.

Nebraska vs Michigan State: Nebraska
Michigan State's 27-10 loss at Notre Dame wasn't disastrous, but it reinforced my biggest concern with the Spartans: where do the explosive plays come from against quality competition? Nebraska enters Big Ten play with an offense capable of staying balanced and consistently creating manageable third downs.
That should allow the Huskers to control possession and keep Michigan State from dictating the game defensively. MSU can hang around at home, but Nebraska has the more reliable path to points.
Oregon vs USC: Oregon
USC's 4-0 start deserves respect, but Oregon is the most complete team the Trojans have faced. USC should score — this isn't a matchup where I'm expecting Oregon's defense to dominate — but keeping pace for four quarters is another matter.
Oregon can attack USC vertically while also remaining balanced enough to punish lighter boxes on the ground. In a game with very little margin for error, I trust Oregon more to generate stops when it absolutely needs one.
Missouri vs Mississippi State: Mississippi State
The spread is too high for my liking, but that doesn't mean I'm abandoning Mississippi State outright. The Bulldogs have shown their offense translates against SEC competition, scoring 41 on the road against South Carolina, and Kamario Taylor gives this offense a dynamic element Missouri has to account for on every snap.
I expect Missouri to keep this inside one possession, but Mississippi State's offensive ceiling and home-field advantage in Starkville are enough to give the Bulldogs the edge.
Georgia Tech vs Stanford: Georgia Tech
Neither team's record inspires much confidence, but Georgia Tech owns the matchup advantage that matters most. The Yellow Jackets' mobility and running game can force Stanford to defend every gap, creating opportunities for explosive plays once the Cardinal start committing extra bodies downhill.
Stanford hasn't shown enough offensive consistency to make me believe it can punish Georgia Tech if the Jackets get ahead. GT should control the ground game, create the better scoring opportunities, and leave California with a win.
