The St. John’s Red Storm and Georgetown Hoyas will close 2025 as the last college basketball game of the year. It’s the conference opener for the Johnnies, who have dominated this rivalry with 10 straight wins.

My St. John's vs. Georgetown predictions don't have that changing tonight.

I break down the matchup in my college basketball picks for Wednesday, December 31.

St. John's vs Georgetown prediction

St. John's vs Georgetown best bet: St. John's -9 (-110)

I documented earlier this year some of the St. John's Red Storm's outstanding issues and how they were unlikely to immediately meet their extremely high expectations out of the gate.

A lot of that (not having a true point guard) has come to fruition. This team, for the moment, is an enigma with a long way to go to meet those expectations.

All that said, I like them in this spot.

The Red Storm's best lanes are the ones the Georgetown Hoyas are worst at defending, especially in transition, where St. John’s has been absurdly good, and Georgetown has ranked in the Bottom 5% nationally. Or on second-chance kick-outs, where St. John’s overly big lineup has made hay, and Georgetown has been almost equally bad against it.

The Red Storm can generate enough offense through these two avenues to pull away by double digits.

On the other side, I just don’t see many offensive traits for the Hoyas that have presented the biggest issues for St. John’s. They don’t have real floor spacers, and that’s an issue that has given the Johnnies the most problems, most notably in their early-season defeat to Alabama when the Tide scored over 100.

I make this spread -9.5, so I’ll lay the points.

St. John's vs Georgetown same-game parlay

St Johns has been an exceptional offensive rebounding team, ranking 25th nationally in offensive rebounding rate and having faced multiple teams that can challenge that. Zuby Ejifor is the best rebounder on the team, so I have no issues taking him to clear this modest number.

I’ll also pair this with him to go over his assist number. Georgetown has really struggled defensively against kick-outs, and Ejiofor stands as the one most likely to profit from that.

St. John's vs Georgetown SGP

  • St. John's -9
  • Zuby Ejiofor Over 2.5 assists
  • Zuby Ejiofor Over 7.5 rebounds

Our beyond the arc SGP: Grinding to a Halt

If the Johnnies are covering, the Hoyas will be stuck in the half-court and living on tougher, later-clock shots, which is the cleanest path to keeping the total down. Also, if Ejiofor is dominating the glass, then possessions will be much more extended for the Johnnies, burning more clock.

I paired that with Malik Mack to go Under his assists total. Georgetown’s offense tends to become more self-created in late shot clock situations, which naturally lowers assist volume across the board.

St. John's vs Georgetown SGP

  • St. John's -9
  • Zuby Ejiofor Over 2.5 assists
  • Zuby Ejiofor Over 7.5 rebounds
  • Malik Mack Under 4.5 assists
  • Under 155.5
