There’s a logjam in the middle of the ACC and the Pittsburgh Panthers and Clemson Tigers are right in the thick of it.
Both programs are pushing toward the postseason and clash inside Littlejohn Coliseum tonight, with the college basketball odds setting the Tigers as 7.5-point home favorites.
The Panthers have won eight of their last 10 games while going on an 8-2 ATS tear since the end of January. That’s pushed Pitt into the mix in the ACC, sitting just behind Clemson in the standings.
The Tigers are also playing their best basketball, having won five of their previous six outings with a 5-1 ATS mark in that span.

The Clemson Tigers may have gotten the best of the Pittsburgh Panthers in their first meeting but in terms of the timeline in college hoops, that December 3 matchup was years ago.
A lot has changed for Pittsburgh since the calendar flipped to 2024. Head coach Jeff Chapel has his program peaking at the perfect time and has bolstered an NCAA resume with notable wins on the road against the likes of Duke, Virginia, and NC State.
Pitt is 6-2-1 ATS in true road games this season and faces a Clemson team that hasn’t shown its best at home. The Tigers have dropped recent home stands with NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech — all while set as the betting favorite. On the season, the Tigers are just 7-7 ATS as hosts.
Pittsburgh’s most notable improvement over the last 10 games has been on the defensive end, where it’s checked opponents to 68.5 points against per contest.
The Panthers do a great job protecting the 3-point arc and don’t give up many easy buckets either, keeping foes at bay on the offensive glass and taking care of the basketball (only 9.5 turnovers per game) with a methodical pace that limits foes' possessions.
While these schools are fighting over fifth place in the ACC, tonight’s matchup means much more to Pitt in terms of NCAA Tournament hopes. Clemson looks like a lock for the Big Dance, but Chapel’s guys need to inject their record with another trademark victory. This game at Clemson is the Panthers’ last remaining Quad-1 game of the regular season.
Game models for tonight range from an 8-point Clemson win to differences of six and 4.5 points. Given the current state of play for the Panthers and their willingness to go into enemy territory and take a win, I’m taking the points with Pitt.

Clemson opened as a 7-point favorite and climbed to as high as -8 before buyback on Pitt trimmed the spread to Tigers -7.5. According to Covers Consensus, 58% of early picks are taking the points with the Panthers.
Pitt is an appealing play right now considering the momentum Jeff Chapel’s team has had over the past month. The Panthers have scored wins over Duke and Virginia in that span, surging up the ACC standings and bringing bettors along for the ride.
Pitt is now 16-11 ATS on the season with an 8-2 ATS clip in its last 10 games overall. Defense has anchored this turnaround for the Panthers, holding six of those foes to under 65 points.
Clemson was able to get the better of Pittsburgh way back in December, winning 79-70 as a 1.5-point road underdog inside the Petersen Events Center. The Tigers stumbled to start conference play but have been a force since early February, with a 5-1 SU and ATS record in their last six appearances.
Efficient offense is the name of the game for Brad Brownell’s program, sitting Top 3 in the ACC while averaging 77.7 points per game in that recent hot streak. Clemson is also 16-11 ATS on the season with a 7-7 ATS record at home.
Tuesday’s total hit the board at 142 points and is sitting as high as 142.5 at some shops. Clemson’s 79-70 victory at Pitt back on December 3 played Over the closing total of 146.5 points and Covers Consensus shows 55% of early picks backing the Over tonight.
The Tigers boast a 15-12 Over/Under record on the year, including an 8-6 O/U count at home. Clemson has stayed Under the total in four of its last six contests heading into tonight’s homestand.
