Duke is laying a massive 40.5-point spread against Coastal Carolina, but Geoff Clark sees value beyond the spread.

My Coastal Carolina vs. Duke prediction centers on Duke laying 40.5 points and a 149.5 total on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. ET.

Duke beat Army 84-50 yet failed to cover, but this matchup could produce a more lopsided result with an unexpectedly quiet scoreboard.

Who will win Coastal Carolina vs Duke: Duke -40.5

I don't usually handicap like this, but I'll take Duke -40.5, up to -42.5, because it feels like the market is begging for Coastal Carolina action.

Bart Torvik and KenPom have Duke winning by only 31 and 32 points, respectively, and those projections are mainstream enough now that plenty of people will automatically grab the 'dog.

Plus, Duke was nowhere near covering as -44.5 favorites in an 84-50 win over Army on Monday. I'm predicting the opposite will happen tonight.

Duke can basically name the score here, and even its backups should overwhelm Coastal Carolina. The Blue Devils beat several similarly rated teams by 41+ points last season.

Give me Duke to bury the Chanticleers.

 TOP PICK
Coastal Carolina vs Duke Over/Under pick: Under 150.5

The Under has value down to 146.5 because blowouts are where Overs go to die. Duke has no incentive to keep its foot on the gas for 40 minutes, and lopsided games naturally lose steam late.

It’s much easier to envision the Blue Devils having a mediocre shooting night than Coastal Carolina suddenly finding enough offense to threaten this total. The Chanticleers have zero returning starters and an all-underclassmen starting five.

Duke is 6-1 to the Under as a favorite of 35+ points under head coach Jon Scheyer.

Duke and Coastal Carolina average roughly 277th nationally in adjusted tempo under their current head coaches, per KenPom. Slower tempo equals fewer points, generally.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Blue Devils have allowed only 54.8 points per game in six straight home games, dating back to February 3 last season, and five of those six games finished below 149.5 combined points, averaging just 133.5 ppg.

Coastal Carolina vs Duke Prop pick: Coastal Carolina Under 54.5 points

I'm taking Coastal Carolina team total Under 54.5 points, down to 52.5, because I have the most faith in Duke's defense of any unit in this game.

The Blue Devils have three 7-foot bigs in their rotation, including preseason All-ACC First Team C Patrick Ngongba II and Second Team C Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje. The Chanticleers were a below-average 3-point shooting team last season, and I'm not sure how much they improve this season.

Over the last two seasons, the Blue Devils held several similarly power-rated opponents to 54 or fewer points, like Western Carolina, Niagara, etc.

In fact, Duke held quality ACC schools to fewer than 54 points last season, such as Virginia and Louisville.

Coastal Carolina vs Duke combo

I’m looking for Duke to do the heavy lifting before halftime, which is exactly how I want Blue Devils -40.5, Under 149.5, and Chanticleers team total Under 54.5 points to work together.

If Duke comes out sharp, buries CC early, and turns this into a 25-point game by the break, with the second half dying.

The Blue Devils can empty the bench, play longer possessions, and stop hunting quick offense because the game is already decided. Coastal Carolina will still struggle offensively, which lets Duke extend the margin without going Over the total.

Give me a first-half avalanche, then 20 minutes of clock-killing basketball.

I’m only risking 0.25u on these combos.
