The Los Angeles Clippers are 5.5-point home favorites over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, Oct. 21, with a 227.5-point total and a 10:30 p.m. ET tipoff at Intuit Dome.
My Kings vs. Clippers prediction and NBA picks lean toward Sacramento keeping it close, with additional value on the total and props.
TOP PICK
Kings vs Clippers prediction: Kings +5.5
I love the Sacramento Kings +5.5, down to +2.5, because the Los Angeles Clippers shouldn't be laying more than one possession against anyone right now.
Not only are they dealing with one of the messiest situations in the NBA, but the Clippers are already missing key rotation pieces for their season opener. First-year wings Brandon Ingram and Max Strus are both out Wednesday. Ingram should become one of the Clippers' primary scorers, while Strus figures to get a meaningful role once healthy.
Meanwhile, Sacramento's roster actually makes sense on paper. Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis are All-Stars, De'Andre Hunter and Keegan Murray are solid 3-and-D guys, and I already picked Darius Acuff Jr. to win Rookie of the Year.

Kings vs Clippers combo
Even without Kawhi and Ingram, I'm throwing the Over 225.5 into my three-leg combo because there are plenty of defensive weak links on both rosters.
LaVine and Sabonis are elite offensive players, while the Clippers' starting backcourt isn't exactly locking anyone down. The Clippers' defense slid last season after the team traded away Zubac and didn't replace him with a needle-moving defensive big.
Los Angeles ranked 28th in pace last campaign, but I'm projecting the Clippers to play faster without Kawhi dominating possessions in the half court. Plus, three of four Kings-Clippers meetings went Over last season.
Below, I'll explain why LaVine 20+ points completes the combo.
Kings vs Clippers combo
- Sacramento +5.5
- Over 225.5
- Zach LaVine 20+ points
Kings vs Clippers player props
Kings player prop: Zach LaVine 20+ points
LaVine's 20+ points prop is tradable up to 52%. He's averaging 20.7 points per game during his career, and LaVine should be Sacramento's highest-usage player and primary scorer now that DeMar DeRozan is with the Denver Nuggets.
Sabonis is one of the Association's best passing bigs, Acuff is a rookie who led the SEC in assists per game last season, and Hunter and Murray aren't one-on-one scorers. More importantly, I'm projecting the Clippers to trot out a bottom-10 defense this season.
Clippers player prop: Brook Lopez 10+ points
Technically, Clippers big Brook Lopez is the second-string center. But I think he'll play as much, if not more, than starting center Isaiah Jackson, who has started just 45 of his 218 career games. If Lopez plays 20+ minutes in this game, he's scoring double digits.
For all of his offensive gifts, Sabonis is one of the worst defensive bigs in the NBA and Lopez is a low-key versatile scorer. He owns a solid low-post game, makes his free throws, and can bang 3-pointers.
Lastly, Lopez puts in minimal effort on defense and saves his energy for offense.
