My Suns vs. Trail Blazers prediction targets Portland's biggest advantage: controlling the paint.
The Blazers host Phoenix on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 10 p.m. ET as 2.5-point favorites, with the total set at 231.5. Portland's size advantage also presents opportunities for several correlated plays.

TOP PICK
Suns vs Trail Blazers prediction: Trail Blazers -2.5
I'll back the Portland Trail Blazers -2.5, playable up to -4.5, because they have the more complete roster and a massive frontcourt advantage.
Starting center Donovan Clingan averaged 12.1 points and 11.6 rebounds last season, including an NBA-high 4.5 offensive rebounds per game, while Phoenix is without starting center Mark Williams. Portland can also bring Robert Williams III off the bench, providing another advantage on the glass and in rim protection.
These teams split four meetings last season, but Portland was missing point guard Jrue Holiday in one loss and All-Star forward Deni Avdija in the other. The Blazers then beat the Phoenix Suns in the play-in with both players on the floor.
Holiday isn't on Wednesday's injury report, and Avdija is questionable but expected to play. Portland also ranked third in adjusted defensive rating after the All-Star break, while Avdija erupted for 41 points against Phoenix in that play-in matchup.

Suns vs Trail Blazers combo
I'm taking Portland's moneyline instead of the spread because I'd be kicking myself if the other two legs cashed and the Trail Blazers won by only one or two points.
The Under 231.5 fits nicely with that approach. Three of the four meetings last season were played at a pace of 96.7 possessions per 48 minutes or slower, a tempo that would've ranked 28th in the NBA. A slower, more physical game should also allow Clingan to control the glass, making his 12+ rebounds prop my third leg.

Suns vs Trail Blazers player props
Suns player prop: Miles Bridges 15+ points
First-year Suns forward Miles Bridges is more likely to eat into the usage of wings Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green than that of five-time All-Star Devin Booker. Still, Bridges' points prop is set at 15+, compared to 20+ points for both Brooks and Green.
Bridges scored at least 15 points in 47 of 77 games last season. He averaged just 17.1 points per game after averaging 20.5 points over his previous three seasons with the Charlotte Hornets. I'm expecting Bridges to play a bigger offensive role in Phoenix than he did during his final season in Charlotte.
Trail Blazers player prop: Donovan Clingan 12+ rebounds
Cling Kong averaged 12.8 rebounds against Phoenix last season, grabbing 12+ boards in three of four meetings. Now-former Suns center Mark Williams was available for all four games.
The matchup looks even better now. Phoenix ranked 27th in defensive rebounding rate last season, while Clingan was one of the NBA's most dominant offensive rebounders.
His improved shooting should also help him stay on the floor longer. The former UConn Husky went from shooting 28.6% from three-point range and 59.6% from the free-throw line as a rookie to 34.1% and 68.0%, respectively, in Year 2.
More minutes against a weak rebounding team should give Clingan plenty of opportunities to clean the glass.
